And adding to your point, Nicole, I believe critical thinking is the foundation of crafting a strategy. Otherwise strategy gets degraded to the level of a task list, which, when thinking of the Stan Shih smile curve, has pretty low value.

The fact that he kneels when he answers makes it so much worse and so much more dangerous... he misses the whole point of university which is to learn how to think critically... but worse he thinks that marketing is just about digital channels - what an ignorant and dangerous man...

Lol check his LinkedIn, he has a real career working with giants, self made. Not like Gary who took over a 3 million wine factory from his parents and spends his day shouting on social media, selling motivation not real skills. What this guy is doing takes skills and education. Besides Gary v wn company is just an agency relyaing on employees skills and creativity not his own. Most agencies are small as can't hire allot of people within a project basis industry. He had his family money to hire and rent offices in NYC.

It's the truth what gary vee said. One is a theorising professor one has used it to produce financial results. Alright to say do this do that, when you never have had to make your theories work by using marketing to sell product. Lot easier to sit in lecture hall and theorise. If he so great at marketing why isn't he a millionaire. Get product company and be like I'm so amazing as a 'professor' that with my marketing skills this company will be making tonnes of money in no time. No instead its a case of let me theorise from the safety of a lecture theatre, with no 'skin in the game', as Taleb recent book said. Hide and pick up a nice salary. Only way you can see you're the shit is to prove it. Not with some meaningless anointed title. Who am i going to listen to about marketing. Mark Ritson a theorising professor or someone like Kevin Plank CEO of Under Armour who had $15000 budget for under armour and turned it into a billion dollar brand in just over a decade.

You should really do your research on Mark before you talk nonsense like this. Just from his LInkedIn, you will see your points aren't valid. "I have also worked as a global brand consultant for clients that include Baxter, Loewe, McKinsey, Subaru, Donna Karan, Westpac, Shiseido, Flight Centre, Johnson & Johnson, De Beers, Sephora, Benefit, Amgen, Ericsson, Jurlique, Cloudy Bay and WD40.
