It is clear the family court system needs an overhaul. When a boy is literally afraid for his life and the court orders he spend time with the man he fears will murder him, there is a serious defect in the system. My heart goes out to the mom and brother. They were completely powerless and now have to carry this horrific burden of Dylan's tragic death. A great cautionary tale. Thank you Dr Grande 🌵🌵🌵🌵

I agree and wish it were that simple. There’s many, many parents who lie, have their children lie, or downright convince their child that the other parent is a monster. There should be extensive tests before alienating a parent from their child, to make sure the one seeking full custody isn’t doing the aforementioned things. If it’s shown that the parent is unstable, then by all means, a child should NEVER be forced to see them.

Mark knew that every year Dylan got closer to 18, he was losing his last hold over Dylan and Elaine. He had already lost Cory. Killing Dylan punishes Elaine, Cory, and Dylan forever. That’s why he’s not even bothered enough to act upset about going to prison for murdering his child. He got 72 years and sweet revenge. He gave them a life sentence. What a monster.

I also think that killing Dylan could have been an act of revenge. This case reminds me of the Ancient Greek tragedy Medea, who also killed her children in order to seek revenge against her husband. Even though she was the mother and not the father, the elements of shame, hatred and revenge are the same. It’s an incomprehensible act, however I believe that many couples who are in acrimonious divorce often use their own children to hurt each other, obviously not rising to the level of murder, yet still cruel. 😕 Thank you as always Dr. Grande.❤️

No the judge's in Australia, if the child is 12years and older ,will some times ask the child who would they want to live with. If there's abuse, the child will have sole custody of the children. If there is no abuse the judge with grant visitation rights, but they need too have a 3rd person to stay and watch. In Australia most of the time it's 50-50 custody. Meant to say the parent will have sole custody.

Elaine Redwine wisely chose to divorce this miserable human and tried to protect her children by keeping her sons away from their father . It always seems that few people believe women when they speak about the violence and degradation that goes on at home . Much of the murderer's behaviour is consistent with narcissism and other issues . Many divorced men use the kids to punish the ex partner and what works better than disposing of him ? This is certainly a case where one person's 'rights' should not have held sway over the courts .

Very good video. I did laugh at the "dining preference" and the bear analogy, that was great and lifted a small bit of this grim story off me. I think your analysis is correct. Heat of the moment striking out and then double shame on him for the fetish AND the murder of his own son. Sadly I don't think he is capable of fully owning his actions. Mental health is a very bizarre universe unto itself. Rest in peace Dylan, you didn't deserve this.

I am so glad you analyzed this case. I lived in CO at the time and my son is the same age as Dylan. We were in a similar situation with a very uncooperative, vindictive father/co-parent. It was highly contentious and frightening. My son constantly came home with untreated injuries or in the midst of severe asthma attacks that ended up requiring hospital admissions. But the courts wouldn't listen, and just like this case, I still had to send him to his father. This case hit me hard. My greatest fear. It is so sad that we are placed in the position of having to send our children into dangerous situations. I don't know about other states, but the CO courts are notorious for not listening/taking mothers seriously about these issues. I always told my ex that until he could love our son more than he hated me I would never trust him as a parent. This case is exactly why. Just heartbreaking. 💔😥

Here is a question I have to pose to Dr. Grande. I am what you may call a "recovering narcissist." Some life issues caused me to become self aware of my lifetime of narcissism, and I've been seeing myself and the world in a different light. I've treated my spouse and others badly, being deep in the narcissistic frame of mind. I'm looking for ways to heal and understand things, but...I see dozens of videos on youtube about how to leave the narcissist, beat the narcissist, defeat the narcissist, survive the narcissist, disarm the narcissist, shut down the narcissist, have revenge on the narcissist, crush the narcissist, destroy the narcissist, make the narcissist suffer forever (lots of videos on that one), and yes, kill the narcissist. It is very hard to find anything to help the narcissist change their ways. Can you please offer some insight into helping the narcissist to recover? I have read that it is rare for a narcissist to be self aware enough to change their ways, but can you offer anything on the spiritual battle of leaving your own narcissistic ways behind?

I would suggest 2 things, cognitive behavior therapy (there’s a very helpful book called Thoughts and Feelings by McKay/Fanning. Not all of it will apply, but a lot of it will help) and studying the techniques of a former FBI agent named Robin Dreeke. He has man techniques for taking the focus off oneself and putting it on other people. I think it takes a lot of practice to change our behavior but with lots of repetition, it sinks in and becomes reflexive. Good luck
