Mark Myers 1/1 J Long TOS PROP BUILDS

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here are my build ups of the out of production 1:1 Star Trek Original Series prop kits by John Long.
The Communicator was built to reflect the photograph in the Making of Star Trek.
The Phased was made to look like an actual working filmed prop...

Great work! Most people don't realize the skill & craftsmanship that is needed to pull it off as well as you did! Star Trek TOS has the COOLEST props ever! I Love the Brilliant & Realistic design of everything in the Classic Series!!

I have zero specialized model building equipment or skills to build such a ST-TOS TV show-like prop version kit. Hence , end up payimg a lot ( when one comes up in places, like eBay ) to obtain a well assembled and painted version of either a John Long /Jon Paul Lussier/Ronald L Shanko ST-TOS prop kit! I applaud your efforts in being able to meticulously assemble and paint one of these kits. These old, out of circulation/for sale kits are beyond my meager model building skills. I congatulate you on very successful builds of these studio-like ST prop kits!! 😀👍🏻🫸🤜👏😎🖖

Thanks for an excellent vid. I find the subject of curated Star Trek TOS props fascinating. The replicas you built are the closest most mortals will ever get to an actual screen-used TOS phaser or communicator.

Those look fantastic. And I love the 'variation' in the lines, fit, design. Because these in-story are basically military field kits, and wear would be present.

Nice job!! That P1 build will really test your patience as a builder. I've built about 6 so far and believe it or not they don't get any easier as each one presents it's own sets of challenges.

Don't know if you're familiar with FRS Radios, (small, inexpensive two-way radios) but I have some which prove useful from time to time. Always wished someone would make a set in the shape and form of the Star Trek original series communicator.

Definitely for the advanced modeler. Great replicas. But I always thought the front plate on the P1 was too big.Stuck out too far.

The original, screen used props are just beat up from age, handing and maybe accidental damages from their previous owners, perhaps even damages when the series ended and a lot of this stuff was getting trashed/thrown away and got damaged in that process. Many of the screen used props, from the show, at that time, that were close enough to the cameras, were probably, in much better shape/condition, during those times. Maybe just time and age has affected the condition of these props, like the paints no longer adhering well and getting chipped off, glues getting old and either yellowing or parts loose, fell off, prop materials getting damages, like chipping/scuffining from rough handling or being stored improperly, etc. These props were never made/built for any type of longevity. The prop makers built these props as quick as they could and to only last for whatever time they maybe used for filming this series So, it is amazing they are still, somewhat, intact, all these decades later!
