When I really really listened to this song, it impacted me greatly. I have been a Christian for many years and I ask myself, Mary what DID you know beforehand. The Bible tells us that an Angel was sent to you and told you a few things. To raise such a child as Jesus. To see His ministry. His miracles and then Jesus brutal death. Mary, you were NOT an everyday woman!

He humbled himself enough to be born a man, be mocked, beaten and crucified for my salvation. It is hard to wrap my head around the love it took to do this knowing the wretched man I am, but he did it willingly

Not just a Christmas song, but a song to honor the name of Mary and Jesus when mentioned together or singularly. The beautiful aspect of the song is there is no one more qualified than Mark Lowry to sing the anthem! Amazing presentation, rooted in the scripture, and so moving to the soul of the listener!!! Blessing to Mark & also Blessings to ALL who hear the song!!!

Mark, David and Guy, are arguably the 3 best voices, in gospel music. Combine that with being accompanied by a blind man on the piano and you have God speaking, almost in person.

For the last, well, I can't tell you how many years, I have attended the Gaither Family Fest in Gatlinburg, TN. It's 3 days of concerts and family fellowship, with a morning session and an evening concert. If you ever want to experience God's love, multiplied many times over, you should check it out. God bless you and your family and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Just never forget that presents are the least important part of Christmas.

Of course. Nobody else has Mark's voice. Michael English sings this song as good and better than Mark.

I never tire of hearing this song, especially when Mark sings it. I guess it is because he wrote the lyrics and he puts his heart and soul into it when he sings.

Actually Mark only wrote the lyrics in 1984, Buddy Green wrote the music score in 1991. It was certainly a collaborative effort. They both have done an amazing job. My all time favorite Christmas song.

@@carranmanning3334 I loved Marks comment about writing this. He admitted that Buddy green wrote the music, because, as he said, "I can't read music, so I don't think I should write it". Bill Gaither has to sing Marks part to him, and he remembers it from then on. What a talent.

While the author of a song is not the only person that can put passion into the performance of a song, Whitney Houston's rendition of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" is perhaps the best example of this; when the author performs a song; it is most often from the perspective of what he or she was thinking and feeling when the song was being penned.

I love this song and how it makes you realise Jesus didn’t just appear but he was a small baby who needed to be cared for and depended on adults just like all of us.

This is the greatest song ever written and it gives me a glimpse into heaven and seeing Jesus stand up when you sing this song.

Mark is usually the comic goofball of the Gaither Vocal Band, but here he shows that he can be serious if he wants to be. This is incredible stuff for a song that he passionately wrote.

Mark was the perfect person to have written this song. He is such a humble soul and the type of person I would love to sing with in Heaven.

I heard your song, "Mary, did you know"" for the first time this weekend by a new group (to me), the Pentatonics and was deeply affected by it, so I had to find out who wrote this moving and sensitive piece that moves whoever listens to it to tears, Christians and atheists alike. Did you know how responsive people were to this song, calling it beautiful, like an angelic choir, etc. You must have been inspired and blessed to write it, as were the many who heard this moving song.

You know that I am getting close to 70 and for many years I have always been in awe in Mary that someone an earthly mother went through so much and to see her son go through so much and what strength and faith to know that her son was the son of our Heavenly Father. What an honor - what faith and what strength she had. Mary knew he was the great I am Psalm 91 versus 1-16 OMG Mary knew and so did Joseph the perfect choices to care for our Lord and Savior

Who would have thought that the "Weird Al Yankavoc" of Christian music wrote this masterpiece!!!

The first time I heard this song was from Michael English's self-titled album from 1991. His version has always been my favorite, but hearing this rendition was also incredibly awesome.

No one can sing this beloved song with more compassion and heart then Mark Lowery!! I know he wrote the song, but it is evident that his heart in soul was in every word written. I never tire of listening to him sing this song no matter what time of year it may be!

Mark puts so much emotion into this song. This is my favorite with him singing it and watching everyone's emotions while he is singing. I especially loved watching David Phelps expressions while Mark sang. So touching.

I must have been under a rock until this past Christmas one of my all time favorite Christmas songs is O Holy Night beautiful song. Then I came across Mark Lowry Mary Did You Know Mark’s voice is truly GOD given it is the most Beautiful song I have ever heard in honor of the Blessed Mother and her son Jesus Christ or Lord. I listen to this song almost every morning at least two times. Such an emotional song that describes the life of a Mother who was granted the ultimate honor of bringing our savior into this world watching him do so many wonderful things and then having to endure watching her son dying for all of us even those who don’t believe. Very touching beautiful words put into a song sung by a Man who’s voice is second to none. Thank you Mr. Lowry.

When Mark was just getting started, he had come to the tiny church we were going to and sung. We still have the album he sold at that time. Too Big to Miss was on it and Ol Buddha. That was 1983 or 84.
