Good job stitching all those little introductory videos together. Perfect prelude.

Here here.. Merci
Anyways, this is funny. Kermode's non-viewing of Rise of the Planet of the Apes has become a very controversial comedy meme on his show. This is like a greatest hits compilation.
Simon - 'he made it for you!' Great stuff.
A brilliant film with emotion and soundtrack
Loved this movie and really didn't expect to at all. Wish I had seen it in the cinema. I hope the next one lives up to it.

Well Done @badhead for putting back in all of the old segments about ROTPOTA from a few months ago and the review.
I completely get and understand Kermode's take on this. I love the original Planet Of The Apes series, not Tim Burton's version so much, but this one was excellent, not a remake, not a prequel just a stand alone Apes movie. Can understand his trepidation on going to see it, flashbacks of Burton's version kept cropping up for me. Over all an awesome movie. Peace and love
This prequel to the hit sci-fi series is terrifically acted, realistic, well directed, effective & has A frighteningly realistic premise. (94%) (4.5/5 stars) (positive)
Sounds good. I wonder what the sequel to the prequel is going to bring.
love the film blew my mind
First it's the married couple, then bickering siblings, now it's Mother Simon telling Mark to tidy his room and Mark saying he's got too much homework...
@themenaceanish Having just recently seen this movie I can in fact confirm that yes, it is very, very good.
Mark has very clear mid-30's and middle-aged faces
Then where is the sequel! It's been two years and no word about anything. :(
just realised, I meant late, not any other slur!
he should have a tv show i miss film(random year)
mark kemode is a legend!
super 8 was jj abrahms doing speilberg
You know you're doing something right in your life when the director himself is e-mailing you, begging if you please want to watch his movie and tell everyone what you think about it!
@themenaceanish Never leave us, menace, we love your comments here. You're so adorable in your jealousy. xD
@themenaceanish Why are you speaking French?
@themenaceanish ha Commode. I can appreciate that.
Omg! The are like an old couple
I know only half of this is the actual review, but I miss the pre-2010 Mayo+Kermode reviews, after that they made the shows longer and I can't help but get bored when Mark has been talking about the one film for more than 6 minutes.
Ketchup and mayo
Yeah I got that from the video, but it's still amusing to hear someone talk about why he still hasn't seen a movie for about the same amount of time he would've spent reviewing the film in the first place.
srs why isnt he reviewing it did he even see it?
13:21 mayo: you cried? haha
I liked this movie all the way through, except for the part where the ape starts talking. It didn't kill the movie though, I re-suspended my disbelief and enjoyed the rest. Just that talking ape scene, Jeez. It pulled me out of the movie and reminded me that it WAS a movie. I would've preferred that the camera had zoomed in, and maybe the ape, glaring intensely, furrowed brow, slow just shook his head no, before charging after the guy and tearing him to shreds.

for me, where he just says ".....NNNNNO!!!" that was my fav part. my jaw just droped. still gives me massive goose bumps. but, you know, we all have our most and least fav bit. i loved the movie too by the way, and just watching the trailer for Dawn Of....i could shit out my spleen with excitement!

gillan bowd I haven't seen the trailer for Dawn yet, but I already know it will be good. Just have to wait patiently for the Blu-ray, b/c I can't deal with people in theaters. My favorite scenes from Rise were 1) when the the guy who jumped on grandpa for wrecking his mustang got owned, and when the whole part with the gorilla on the bridge. He was a boss...until he died.
They're building to all that.
@wcjones451 This IS is his life. I know, it's pitiful.
I feel like we might have watched different films. That doesn't describe what I saw at all.
Bloodlovefreak you were pretty snooty to this guys original post for no reason... and he's backed it up. in this case he's right
No way, he finally saw it then?
Every Uwe Boll filmed ever made + every Ed Wood film ever made = better than Tim Burton's Monstrosity of the Apes.
Poor Rupert Wyatt!
Motion capture is like wearing makeup, but the makeup can be endlessly manipulated and tweaked by animators. So. not much at all like wearing makeup really.
A sirkus ape
12:08 robocop anyone???
@themenaceanish Or writing French rather, Lol.
Not really. It's just a good movie.
No moral ambiguity? The apes were test subjects. Therefore you are torn between rooting for them and not wanting to see them kill thousands of humans either. Did the original Planet of the Apes touch upon theology or social issues? I've never seen any of them so I wouldn't know.
you really didn't understand this movie
1: Super 8 was boring ....and just pants ! 2: Jane Eyre .... you are joking , right ? 3: "10 films out every week " ....not like this one Dr K , maybe one a year !!!! 4: Even the Director cant force you to see it ....what sort of Apes fan r u ? 5: His daughter wants to see it , but no, he still refuses !! 6: Finally the saga is over !!...... But for the film, just the beginning... i hope .
yeah maybe. tbh its none of my business youtube arguments are pointless anyway
If a critic is asked why he thinks a particular film or a painting is a masterpiece, he doesn't just say 'subjectively I think it is,' he can rigorously defend his case by citing the historical sources the piece draws on and the particulars of the piece that inspire such and such an emotion. Let's bring this to a close. Can you do the same for this film?
wow... spoiler!
Must be so hard to see a few films a week! I do that with a full time job

thank you! people forget that kermode is a journalist as well as well as a film maker (documentaries) for years now! He made the very successful documentary of Linda Lovelace that has a million views right now.
One thing that irritates me in modern cinema is the overbearing use of CGI;I mean when the director decides to use a computer generated plant or a fake Golden Gate Bridge instead of the real thing that is just ridiculous. And lets not ignore the plot holes, you're telling me they're going to reject a drug that would save millions of lives because...get this! A chimp (yes, one of the crazy things)happens to be angry!I mean come on!Not to mention the smarmy lead character and the limp 'love' subplot
If Western critics are a reflection of Western cultural sensabilities then Nigerians critics must be a reflection of Nigerian sensabilities in which case you are referring to the general Nigerian population. You poor thing.
...he didn't really like it...;)
OMG this video is hilarious. Why do they even bother mentioning the movies they haven't even seen yet?
Mayo was actually funny for once!
First! First view, too. That is all.
All your 'argument' have been duly defeated. give up and save yourself from further humiliation.
Not in a homosexual way....lol
'Because Citizen Kane is so widely regarding as being a masterpiece by Western critics doesn't mean shit, you think they feel the same way in Nigeria or India?' The statement can either mean that Nigerians and Indians aren't up to the movie or that their standard of what makes a good movie is different. The burden is on you to make your sentiments clear, and not on me. in short, it's more of this relativism excuse you use to justify your arrogance.
Actually, you do need to qualify your statement. If I imitated the structure of your first comment and said that 'this painting is a masterpiece, a fucking masterpiece,' it could easily be interpreted as 'not only do I like this painting, but it has objective value as a great painting for anyone else that looks at it.' To take this statement and say that it was 'clearly just a personal declaration' is just bullshit, and you know it. You can't worm your way out of this one.
It wasn't clear that your assertion was just personal, otherwise you would have qualified it with something like 'in my opinion,' you must have hit your head on something when you said your comment 'was clearly a personal declaration.' You can't expect to call mediocre movies 'a masterpiece' without being challenged. Spare me the relativism bullshit. The fact that you think Nigerians and Indians won't appreciate Citizen Kane speaks more about you than it does about the movie.
i hated super 8
1972's Conquest Of, in all it's luridness and cheapish production was better than Rise.
Well, if you think it is a masterpiece then that's fair enough. I can't stop you from believing that the Twilight movies were masterpieces. However, if you want to state that the movie is an objective masterpiece then it must meet a certain criteria: universal accalim as a masterpiece, originality, and have a certain cultural impact. Most critics have fell short of calling this movie a masterpiece and the themes have already been explored by the other Planet of the Apes movies. Not a masterpiece

In your opinion
I didn't like the film
More holes in a script than a rampaging fake-looking CGI gorilla can (apparently) endure without snuffing it - presumably the same logic whoever green-lighted this boring, ludicrous idiocy followed when reading it. What is truly stunning is how you can screw up the story AND show us a central ape so fake-looking it makes the waxy, creepy-ass tiger in Life of Pi look like a masterpiece of modern film making. Why on earth Mark Kermode would credit any of this? Who knows ...

your the first person that ive heard say anything bad about the lion in the great life of pi movie. Pretty much all the visuals in life of pi was amazing and had a real artistic vision to it, unlike most big budget movies. Why can't someone have an opinion nowadays without someone going all keyboard warrior on them..? KZread has the most depressing people in the comments section. It's as if the right they were given to like or dislike things don't count with other people. its just.. sad.. BIG sigh..
