» This character is to me heroic and something that our culture needed, somebody who fought for women and who elevated women's voice and who bears witness to such pain and there is great healing in that.
Olivia Benson is important for so many reasons but I won't stay here and enlist them all because we all know them and because Mariska summed it up pretty perfectly.
What I'd like to say, though, as a 21 year old girl living in this time and this society, is that seeing Mariska Hargitay giving life to this iconic character and being iconic herself for 21 years, breaking records and making history, gives me hope and makes me so incredibly proud.
I remember watching svu when I was just a little girl and now it's huge. SHE is huge.
She's so, so, SO important I could fight anyone who has the guts to say that she's not because SHE IS and if you ever have a doubt on it come to me and I'll smack some sense back into you.

I think if it weren't for Mariska and Olivia, I might not be alive right now, or my life would be very different. I say that for so many reasons. Mariska helped me get over my looks, and realize that I have a great personality, and my weight isn't all that matters. "Your body is NOT who you are." as she says. I also am doing so much better in coping with my personal trauma, because of this show and Olivia. So many of the things Olivia says are so beautiful and inspiring, and the show and Liv have gotten me through so much. I've gained courage from this show, and learned to "Kick fear in the side, because the payoff is huge.". This show gives so many so much, and you really illustrated that. Wonderful job, Parrilla. (I used to be Wheelbarrow Byers, fyi. :) )

Yeah... Same I was taken away from my alcoholic mother when I was 8. I was fostered by my friends parents for a year and a half, then I went to live with my sister for 2 years. Now I live with my dad but I struggle a lot. My mum now does drugs and when I was taken away from her she went downhill. She lives nearby but chooses her abusive boyfriend over me. Its hard. Im 16 now. Last year I turned to my school teachers but my last school year ended 5 months early because of the virus. I'm going to college in a month. I have trust issues and it's hard to speak to people. My dad is great and all but he works alot so I don't speak to him much.

it’s so painful, i was put in foster care when i was 4 but was moved around a lot and then at 11 i was sent to a couple they held me down and raped me everyday until i was 15, i put up a wall i went to school everyday and my friends thought i lived an amazing life, but i survived and now i’m 17 and doing ok, life can be so painful but i promise one day it will get better, i’m so sorry for what you’ve been through we were innocent children and didn’t deserve any of this
