I'm pretty sure they had the voice actor actually play the games and then edited some extra lines and edited Mario in. Because he sounds so chill here compared to other times. But the part that convinced me is the part (4:46) when he realized Mario was hiding there. That made me assume he was actually playing the game and he was actually reacting that way.

I love how SMG3 sounds so real here

The fact that not only was SMG3's animation RIDICULOUSLY smooth here, but I love how you can almost feel Mario grow a few brain cells just to punch SMG3 in the shoulder and go "oh, does Mr. Confident not know how to jump? Because I can give you a tutorial if you need one... 😉" because of how smooth he was animated in reaction to SMG3. Feels like they're already fast friends. The kind where you can insult each other and you come out laughing and feeling better.

It’s amazing to see two friends getting along like SMG3 and Mario who settled their differences in the past.

I’m all for the expressiveness of Smg3’s voice but something about how casual and natural his voice was throughout this whole video is appealing to me. I think it also has something to do with his mic.

No, I’m pretty sure it’s because in the usual videos, his voice acting for his voice lines are supposed to be more expressive. This is just a “casual gameplay”.

I like that James used his regular voice as though this was one of his livestreams. The way the footage was set up reminded me a lot of the Hobo Bros Gmod videos. This was a really fun one, I loved the dynamic between Mario and SMG3.

We KNOW that things have gone off the rails when SMG4s insanity goes to the _Mario Does Things series._

Curious fact: Armonzii (one of SMG4 Friends, ex-SM64 machinimist, I think he's also one of the editors and he also was a writer for a short time) was playing as Mario in this video, everytime Mario dies, You can see his name tag in the game

SMG3 also feels like a real streamer in this episode. He isn't over the top in his speech like in main episodes and just sounds like a normal guy, not someone who has defeated a eldritch god in a rap battle. I feel like he fits this tone slot better than in other episodes, but that's just my opinion.
