Fun fact: This is only Mario Kart where: -Stars makes you dance -There's more then one course fanfare -SNES and GBA tracks lack the Mario Kart banner (since their respective games didn't have them) -Have retro tracks that share some songs -All battle tracks share the same song -Retro Battle Tracks aren't laybed for what game originaly come from

I got a new DS so I thankfully am not at a disadvantage. If I hadn't I would be in the same boat as you. I tried doing Mario Kart 7 and Wii without Drift. I did Mario Kart Wii but Neo Bowser City ruined chances of beating 7 with 0 drifting

Your lucky to find your manual, my family have trown it to the trash 3 months after I got the game

The Ds has a larger texture cache but, aside from that it’s less powerful than the N64.

It is only as a kid I got such an excitement to open a present. Now, I have the penny to just buy many stuff. Anyway, Mario Kart DS is my first MK game and I played it endless amount of times with my friends after school. I gave it after few years back and have MK 8 to play, but I'll never forget the simple time I had to just play a game at home or with friends.

This game aged like fine wine.

I remember during weekends and school breaks when I was between 8 and 10 my cousins and I would play this game together non-stop for hours and hours it was crazy. I’m 19 now and I got my old DS Lite I got back in 2009 for my 7th birthday running again. Still works amazing for a 13-year-old gaming device. Man those were the days. When I link up with my cousins again and we’re not busy I’ll ask if they still have theirs and if we can relive old times. Those times were the best, with life so simple.

Why I love this game: 1. Awesome 2nd title screen 2. Clean menus 3. Cool vehicles (my favorite combo is Peach + Light Tripper) 4. Funny sounds bites 5. Fresh controls 6. Waluigi Pinball 7. Delfino Square 8. Tick-Tock Clock 9. Rainbow Road (should had been in MK8 instead of the SNES one for the 20th time) 10. Retro tracks 11. Bullet Bills 12. Stars make you dance 13. Great battle mode 14. Mission Mode 15. Custom emblems 16. Catchy soundtrack (my favorite song is Rainbow Road) 17. Most of the remixes are good (my favorite is the GBA Circuit theme) 18. R.O.B 19. It has three course fanfares 20. Beautiful credits

Some issues I have with: 1. The graphics haven't aged well (except for stuff like Toad, Dry Bones and Rainbow Road) 2. Only 12 characters (13 if you count Shy Guys) 3. Boring simple mode for Multiplayer 4. *MISSION 7-6* 5. Awful remix for SNES Mario Circuit 1 6. 64% of the retro tracks got no changes 7. All battle tracks share the same song 8. Figure-8 Circuit (SEE WHAT I DID?)

Between the course selection, missions mode, and it being mostly a skill based entry, MKDS is to me far and away the best entry in the series.

You know, I remember playing this game a fair deal back in the day, but I really have no nostalgia with it (granted, I remember some strange places where I played it). That being said, I came back to the game quite recently, and I was genuinely surprised how great the game still holds up. The drifting definitely took some getting used to, but the overall gameplay, presentation, and modes make it one of my favorite. Can't wait 'til you're MK7 video (my personal favorite)!

Reason Why I Love Mario Kart DS: Because Of Everything

I love snaking. Mario Kart DS is the most competitive Mario Kart thanks to snaking. BSD also helps making Mario Kart DS more competitive. Snaking is overpowered in the sense that giving gas is overpowered; snaking is extremely potent but it needs to be because that is what makes the game more suited for competitive play. Of course, if you prefer Mario Kart to be more luck-based with a lower skill-ceiling, then you probably dislike snaking. BTW, it seem slike that you guys never played Mario Kart DS competitively. Snaking in Mario Kart allowed for strategy picking a kart+character combination? If you call always picking the Egg 1 or Dry Bomber strategy. Snaking greatly reduces the viable karts when done properly. Competitive Mario Kart DS is all about squeezing in as many snaking boosts as you can. In order to do well there you must almost always be having a drifting boost. You start drifting and activate the new boost before the old boost runs out and you must keep that up the entire course, except for some obvious exceptions (for example ramps, loops, etc). No where in the shown footage did you ever even come close to snaking's full potential. Anyway, I get that Mario Kart is supposed to be a causal series. But that makes Mario Kart DS so special, because Mario Kart DS, although being very suited for casual play, is also very good for competitive play. As the long as every player is casual or every player is competitive, Mario Kart DS is really fun. This does not hold as much for other Mario Karts due to their lower skill ceiling which tends to be less fun to competitive players.

You know you made it when you were playing full matches on the bus ride to and from school with your friends. One of them had ROB and kicked our butts everytime.

Mario kart DS continues to be my favorite Mario kart to this day. Now maybe for nostalgic reasons I also love Mario kart 64 as I grew up in the 90s and played that game so much although I did start with the original Super Mario kart before that, but I'm not letting my nostalgia goggles get in the way for this. I love Mario kart ds. I was 17 when that game came out and had played every prior Mario kart game besides the arcade, but I recall just always having such a blast with this game. The mission mode is in addition that I just don't understand why they never brought back. Customizable emblems you're pretty cool as well. As an Oakland A's fan I would actually draw the Oakland A's logo and have that be the emblem on my kart in that game. I didn't always get to play multiplayer with my friends in this game, but I had so much fun with the single player and all that you can do on it not just the missions but the battle mode and the racing individual tracks or setting it so that it automatically plays all the tracks in order was so awesome! I remember back when I played this was when I used to take the bus to school and back whether it was high school or college and there were a couple occasions when I played Mario kart DS on the bus with a complete stranger because we both had a Nintendo DS in both had Mario kart on it. You couldn't get that with the other Mario karts. I mean yeah I suppose you could with Mario kart 7 and Mario kart 8 deluxe, but by the time those games came out I drove my own car so yeah I didn't care for the damn bus. Lol

I was 8 when I got this game, TOO!! In fact, it was ALSO 2010, AND a WEEK before Christmas!!

With Wiimmfi you can use all the online components in nearly all DS(I) and Wii games just like you could back in the day!! It's extremely easy to use and doesn't require any modding, litteraly takes like 30 seconds to do. Wish more people knew about this, maybe you could do a video on it if you haven't already!

All the dislikes are probably from the MK Wii lovers... I am a MK DS fan!!! Great video! (I do like MK Wii though)

Mario Kart DS, eh? This game is certainly an ambitious one. A full Mission Mode, nice track designs, the first game with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and a decent roster are shining reasons why fans love it so. I first ran into Mario Kart DS in 2007, being the second game I got for the handheld after Super Mario 64 DS. I liked it back then, and don't mind the occasional revisit today. Unfortunately, I still find 64 as my favorite. It's heavily carried by my silly nostalgia, but DS is still a fun time. Waluigi Pinball is a great course. These videos are nice, Demeech.

Actually the first Mario game I ever played, many years before I became a Mario fan in 2020.

I remember that my grandma brought TWO copies of Mario Kart Ds so that I could play with my cousin. I had my Ds lite and my dsi xl. We would play it all the time!

Mario Kart DS, I got it for Christmas in 2008 and I was happy that I got it so I can play on my Nintendo DSi. Also love your Light Blue Nintendo DSi Demeech.

Mario Kart DS is one of my favorite games. I can’t decide between Mario Kart Double Dash and DS for being my number one favorite. I usually like Double Dash as my favorite, but DS has more replay-ability.

My first Mario Kart with the SNES version on the PSP back in 2007. We played Battle Mode to Infinity...still my 2nd favorite Mario Kart to play, even thou 8 surpassed it overall with their DLC Waves

playing on mcdonald’s wi-fi to play MK online on a handheld? woah this was high tech for me! i mained Toad R.O.B and dry bones, standard carts usually i think i love the presentation of this game especially, visuals and sound

This is the only Mario Kart game with Last-Man-Standing battle mode AND cpus in battle mode.

Mkwii is my favorite MK game, but either DS or Double Dash would be 2nd, I can't decide between the two.

Funny to look back at this knowing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now has Waluigi Pinball in it.

I also think it’s the best mario kart. Nostalgia aside, this game just has ALOT of content packed inside it !

There are games I'm nostalgic for that I don't go back to. Mario Kart DS is far better than any other handheld Mario Kart.

This game was the only one where the red shells went to the side so you have to turn a bit to black them

This game has the best selection of tracks and music BY FAR

Actually the first mario kart game to introduce retro tracks was super circuit, having SNES tracks as a bonus.

After playing 8 deluxe with only one unlockable I didn't know about, U got this one and wondered WHERE THE HECK IS WALUIGI. But then I unlocked him

this is my favorite with my second being mk8d

The only reason I can think why mission mode isn't in any subsequent game is because the controls in DS are more tight than the rest.

All of my form plays Mario kart together in form period the multiplayer its really fun

Actually I hate mk8’s drifting style because it make getting the mini-turbo too easy unlike previous games like ds or 64 where to master drifting takes time and effort. But then again this was my first mario kart so I have perfected snaking

i wish i could still play this but unfortunately my ds no longer reads carts for some reason

I wonder why they couldn't have as good control of ur kart in any other mk. For that it will always be in my top 3

In my opinion, Mario Kart DS looks decent, but then again, it is the only mainline Mario Kart (not counting GP 2 and Live Home Circuit) I never played once myself, so I will not judge!!😂

Best Mario Kart game Wii is a close second I still find myself shaking my character back and forth while drifting despite the fact that's not how drifting is anymore I miss the old drifting abusing it was fun

In my opinion, Mario Kart DS is the magnum opus of Mario Kart. Also, fun (and sad) fact: Mario Kart Wii was going to have a mission mode, but it got scrapped. Idk why.

This game really is the best. It all comes down the control.

My two mains was toad and waluigi

While DS isn't my #1 MK game, it's definitely high tier for me. With that being said, if MarioKart DS was this good, then boy can't I wait for the Wii. After that, meh in comparison imo.

Ironically despite DS having the most single player content of any mario kart, I think I've probably played it's local multiplayer more than any other mario kart game
