I remember meeting Charles Martinet at Québec City Comic Con... it was the best moment of my life. He was such a nice person and i wish i couldve spoken to him again longer ^^ he even signed my Mario Kart Double Dash Copy! This is a thing that i will keep verry dearly close to my heart for the rest of my life.

Charles is the person that made Mario, Mario. The voice of a character is really important in order to make them iconic in my opinion, and Charles did such an amazing job at that. Thanks for your wonderful voice-acting Martinet.

I didn't really grow up on Mario, as I only played a few of his games, and was mainly a SEGA kid, but man; to see this happen...it just feels surreal. Whoever the new Mario VA is, they're doing a great job, but it'll be weird playing Mario knowing that Charles Martinet no longer voices him. No matter what, I will NEVER forget the impact that Charles had. So thank you, Charles Martinet.

Charles literally knew almost nothing about video games when he started his voice acting audition, but he still did his best for the sake of the players. I think that's something that isn't as common as we might think, honestly, and I never met him but he seems like a really awesome person. I never owned a nintendo console until I was about 13 but I still have a sense of nostalgia towards him, watching youtubers play through or talk about his adventures :]

While Charles's retiring brings a tear to my face, I'm glad he can finally sit back, relax, and enjoy life, wahoo or no wahoo

I see you watched every Martinet interview ever, too. The fact that Charles managed to keep that audition story consistent after all these years is a testament to his talents, even as he's improved.

Charles is forever a legend who has touched all our hearts. Even outside the Mario series, he still has an influence. From Paarthurnax in Skyrim, almost every male character in Cel Damage to even Orvus in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. We will always remember the fun memories we had hearing his voice over 30 years ago.

I feel that they'll have someone from the same pool of voice actors that they've used for Fire Emblem, to voice Mario and several others. Still, going to miss Charles as Mario and Luigi.

I remember me and my brother always played with our Mario plushies and we would both try our hardest to do the voice of Mario and Luigi and just so many fond memory’s and his voice made Mario Galaxy so fun and amazing man it’s just everything

Nintendo has officially confirmed that Mario, the star of many of the biggest games of the last 30 years, is no longer a plumber.

I love that your art style is reminiscent of Mii’s

I still can't let it go... He will always be THE Mario for me. Mario is my comfort character, and Charles helped me a ton with his iconic voice during my childhood and now. To believe his last line was as Mario's dad was a way to tell us that they're indeed his boys, and he enjoyed so much being them 😭😭😭

Charles Martinet was pretty much the first VTuber. His first Mario gig involved wearing a mocap rig which puppeted a live 3D animated Mario who interacted with crowds and such. It was called MIRT (Mario In Real Time) and Nintendo has been using the technology, in some form or another with Martinet playing Mario live, ever since. Maybe he will keep playing Mario in this capacity, in his new role as "Mario Ambassador".

As a person who absolutely love Mario and and been through thought times recently and struggling to find my purpose in life, I cried watching this. Thank you Charles for bringing so much joy and passion into Mario, it would not have been the same otherwise.

His last lines made me shed a tear 4:00

We will miss Charles.He was apart of your childhood.He made Mario feel like an actual Italian man.Made him feel alive.That classic “Wahoo”Voicing so many iconic characters like Wario, Meme Lord, Luigi and Mario himself.But at least he is not retiring completely from Nintendo.He is now gonna be the Mario Ambassador.Wondering (Sorry I had to do it)why he is retiring?Its bc he is 67 and other than that I don’t know.But anyways Thank You Charles Martinet.

Charles Martinet is a legend. He was a big part of my interest and passion for Mario. I’m thankful for all of the amazing memories he’s created with voice acting Mario in many of my favorite Mario games.

^^ Met Charles Martinet at the ComiCon in Canada last year! He signed my Super Mario Odyssey book, I thanked him for voicing Mario and Luigi over the years and he thanked me in Luigi's voice! AHH! Everyone has played mario, and everyone loves Charles. Mario Bros on Wii is my childhood, and i love that. I remember playing it for hours with my sisters, but still haven’t finished it. Thanks charles

this hit me in the heart. thank you Charles, for making my childhood. little story time: me and my babysitter used to play Mario maker and other games like that, and most of the multiplayer games, and when she (my babysitter) moved, these games were all i had. also, i also played 3DS games too. I’ll always remember Charles and his work. thank you Charles, for everything. love your stuff madz.

The most exciting element is that this guarantees new voice clips for the spin offs. Mario Kart, Mario Party, the Sport games, they'll all feel just a bit fresher.

I'm watching this only a couple of days after meeting Charles in person at a convention and he's such a sweetheart. This guy still lives and breathes Mario and exudes so much kindness and enthusiasm for his fans. Just an amazing guy all around.

those are some huge plumber shoes to fill but this new mysterious mario is already doing such a wonderful job, im so proud of them, whoever they may be, and I wish them the best on their journey! what an honor it must be to be handed the microphone to give a voice to such a beloved character! and much MUCH love to Mr. Martinet, I hope he has so much fun as a Mario Ambassador, and I hope I can finally fufull my dream of meeting him someday!

My first hint of Charles voice was in new super Mario bros ds my first 2d Mario game and still a favorite

He’s the voice of an entire generation’s childhood. If you’re as old as me, you’ll remember that Mario was voiced by Captain Lou Albano on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show in the mid to late 80’s. So this wasn’t my first rodeo lol

Charles Martinet gave so much Joy to a lot of People, and his Voice Talent is impressive even beyond the Character of Mario... And through all his Work, he really defined how we see these Characters today! As much as I'm going to miss him, Charles definitely deserves a good retirement, and I hope that whoever is picking up where he left will be able to fulfill that legacy! Let's-a go, to a new Era of Mario!

The whole Mario Movie last voice line thing actually brought a tear to my eye I am actually crying right now.

I'm not gonna complain about the new voice it sounds similar to Charles with their own spin on it.

Charles will always be my favorite voice actor ever. He always seems to bring a smile to my face. His voice performances is what really brought these characters to life.

I don’t think anyone can replace Charles martinet. He will be the only Mario who touched the hearts of the entire fan base the way he did. He is (in my opinion) a very tough voice actor of Mario to beat, even as the first person to voice him and the other characters he voiced.

Charles is my (possibly biggest) hero in life because of how talented he is and the pure joy he's brought to my life. My dad grew up on Mario and then raised me and my siblings on it, so we grew up loving the series. I still plan on meeting him some day.

One of my favorite childhood memories is when I'd pick Mario every time I'd play Mariokart Wii and then watch the Super Mario Bros. Super Show(because back then Netflix had literally EVERYTHING) and go, "Wtf?" in my head because of how different Mario's voice is there.

Charles was the happiness of our childhood, adolescense, and adulthood, and enjoyed every minute with him. Even though its heartbreaking to hear him retire the voice of mario, his legacy will live on through life and death. Its great to hear that the new VA sounds very similar to the original voice, and although its not the same, mario is still mario. The new VA is gonna be this generation's childhood, and hopefully adolescense and adulthood, so best of luck and best wishes to the guy.

A legend in his own right along with Mike Pollock, Charles Martinet truly was the VOICE of a generation for video games since Super Mario 64. I have to say once Mike Pollock retires he WILL definitely get the same reception as Charles is.

Unfortunately, I was never a big fan of Charles Martinet in my childhood. I just knew him as 'The Guy Who Voices Mario' and that's it. I never really got to connect with him. Seeing him go is quite sad for me because he WAS apart of Nintendo's history for a long while. Now if the same thing happened with Toad's VA, I would be down in the dumps sobbing my head off.

He brought so much life to the character. Many generations grew up hearing his voice while playing some really fun games. Charles Martinet isn’t just the voice actor of Mario, he *IS* Mario. Every time Mario says something humble like “Thank you so much for playing my game!” That is Charles talking through Mario because he is truly thankful for everyone playing and hearing his voice along the way.

Everyone knows that Charles isn’t gonna live forever and I’m guessing Nintendo knew this and wanted to prepare to transition into new voice actors and while the new va sounds a lot like Mario it’ll never be the same as good old Charles 😔

The last newly recorded lines for Mario by Charles are for Tuxedo Mario in the 2023 Summer Tour in Mario Kart Tour, which is also coming to a close now too 😢.

Rest in peace Charles Martin I hope you have a good time helping the new voice actor

Goodbye Charles Martinet to all the memories and making Nintendo come to life.🥹

It’s going to be a hard goodbye for me, I don’t know about everyone else but seeing him in Mario movie felt super charming like Stan lee cameos especially the later ones as it just touches the heart for only the fact of feeling like the father of them is there to watch them do their best in life and sometime give guidance when needed through disguised as humor. I say this as I felt the very same emotions of bitter sweet joy with his cameo and voice. I hope he’s happy doing whatever now.

No matter what we will still have Mario games and Charles will still be in some of our favorite games forever.
