I believe the bit where Sephiroth "kills" Mario is a reference to Final Fantasy VII where he strikes his sword through Cloud.

I love how it's like an anime where a new character joins the game and it takes the entire main cast to fight this one super strong character, then that character joins the team (Megaman for example), and this same cast of characters, plus the previously super strong enemy character are now on a team, and can't beat the solo new challenger that joins the game. It's like classic anime where once the character joins the hero team they become weak again. XD

That reveal makes no sense because galeem pieced up cloud easy....sephiroth beats galeem and then cloud beats sephiroth. And sora this loser kid beats them both Hate ff. Link is better and at least could tank hits from galeem with his shield. Had they used lore link with the triforce, galeem is done

When Sephiroth joined Smash, that whole scene he was in was just the same scene from Final Fantasy 7 when Cloud got killed but instead it was Mario.

Cloud did not die either. But he actually got stabbed by Sephiroth, whereas Mario didn't. That was pretty much the joke of the reference, because everyone thought at first glance that Sakurai would actually dare replicate that scene and have Mario die.

If you study the silhouette, it looks like Ridley has his claw/talons/paw (if you can call it a paw) around Mario's face which is keeping him from yelling to Samus, but isn't necessarily fatal. The more you know I guess?
