Marine Sniper’s First Kill Leaves Him DEVASTATED

In this powerful episode of Urban Valor, we sit down with Lu Gomez, a Marine Sniper Veteran who shares the story of the true cost of combat. Born and raised in California's South Bay, his struggles came early with marijuana and time in juvenile hall that led to his transformation into a highly skilled Marine Sniper.
Lu takes us to the front lines of Iraq and Afghanistan, where he conducted multiple combat deployments. He opens up about the impact of taking lives, including his first confirmed kill - a teenage boy armed with a machine gun. He discusses the personal toll of his service, having lost nearly everyone closest to him during his time in the military.
Lu offers a rare glimpse into many veterans' struggles upon returning home and the struggles of returning to everyday life!
His story reminds us of the sacrifices our service members make and the importance of supporting them in their everyday trials when they return home.
Join us for this unforgettable episode of Urban Valor, where Lu Gomez's testimony will leave you both humbled and inspired by the strength and resilience of our nation's heroes.

Does anyone know of someone who actually saw the first plane hit the building on 9/11? My birthday is on 9/12 and I was turning 21 the day after 9/11. I was up early that day so I could go and buy the new Slayer album "G*d Hate's US All" so I was up earlier that morning. But I got a call from a friend to watch the TV and see the attack. I saw the smoke from the 1st plane and I watched the 2nd plane hit.

@@Acf647 yeah totally bro these people who fight and die for this country only care about what the government thinks not to better their lives and achieve something they’ve never accomplished before or maybe feel a sense of brotherhood or a sense of patriotism for a place they love but nahhh they just love the government and die because they don’t care about their lives or the lives of others, I understand that at this time we look back at certain wars and question the reason why they were there in the first place, but at that time what those men and women thought was they were thinking about the safety of their family, of the freedoms that they have and have a sense of duty to protect those things and I personally admire people who do that, so yeah I’m going to thank these people for their service and I will continue till the day I die.

Mr. Gomez told one of the most gripping stories I have ever heard from a Combat Veteran! I am a Vietnam Veteran, although I never saw combat, as the was telling his story I could feel his pain. It was so good to hear that after all the ups, and downs he went through as a Marine in the end he triumphed, and it sounds like he is doing so very well now. You are a Worrier in every sense of the word. My hopes, and prayers are with you, that you will continue to be blessed every day from this day forward.

It should bother him, he killed a child who was defending his country. What if the shoe was on the other foot. We know osama was an asset, and we know sadam and the t-ban had nothing to do with the twin towers. If we know that osama was an asset, and we know that osama was the leader of al-Q then why did we go to war with the state of Iraq and Afghanistan? I know why but I can't say it or my comment will get auto deleted. Here's a hint, it has to do with a pipeline which they are still attempting to build. And Europe and usa are not the ones who will profit from this project. We'll actually be paying for it, and paying who? You know who

The GWAT vet is a special breed reminiscent of the WW2 generation. The amount of rotations some of you have is absurd. Some of you spent a whole career in combat and had children who served on the same ground as you. That’s fn nuts! You people are true patriots your names and memories are forever etched into our countries history. All volunteer true professionals, you did the job well with fd up ROEs and a hand tied behind your backs most of the time. None of you failed this country or its citizens regardless of what our government did/does. From Afghan to Iraq, Syria to Libya and all around the continent of Africa to everywhere in between. For 20 years we were safe here at home because of you! Whether you were a cook or a truck driver, which is crazy AF with the IED threat mad respect! Infantry to support none of it would’ve happened if not for all of you! As a son, grandson and family member of combat wounded 11b’s 0311-0317’s to motor T, from WW2 Vietnam and Afghanistan with countless OEF, OIF friends. I didn’t serve but I’ve witnessed friends and family suffer and or check out. This American appreciates what you’ve done and will NEVER take what you’ve preserved for granted. I promise to honor all of you by being a good American and never back down from doing what’s right here at home. Idk you but I love you and I’m proud of you mfrs! 🫡🇺🇸 P.s we need your experience leadership and perspective in this country right now more than ever! Too many people have forgotten who we are and what it took to make this country so special. You did your job almost too well to the point they’re out of touch with the reality of the world around them and don’t know what real problems are. Anyway ❤

First and Foremost. Semper Fi Lu. Your extraordinary professionalism military training is what kept you alive. Especially as a Marine Sniper. Many lost their lives defending what they believed in. More so, defending our country (America). Never except the fact that it was your fault. In that type of environment, it can get very confusing, making the unexpected decisions. No one will ever know what you are carrying inside. I personally know a MGySgt (Retired) Who did three tours in Vietnam. He also carries those darkness experiences. Also had a CWO-4 who was a POW during Vietnam. Their stories were extraordinary and, at the same time, brought fear. I was just a PFC. I find your story very interesting and informative. When i joined the Marine Corps, all i wanted was to be a Grunt and go to war. Even though i registered in 1973. I didn't get called. Once again, thanks for sharing your emotional, tear dropping experience. Keep your head up, stay strong, brother. We love you. Semper Fi. But more importantly, I want you (and every vet listening) to know that you can reach out if you need anything. Wow Another Stellar interview. Thank you for your service Marine Gomez! Yo sinto su Alma en el sonido de sus voz😢😊. Bendiciones ❤. Interesante, flags in so called dignitary casket(s) have wrinkles 🤔😂. One of them had 'dancing queen played at his funeral 🤔😂😂. You did what you had to do. Better than being out there fighting in the streets because of their home turf or color 🤔🙄🙄🙄🤭. I Am also sure the guy who harassed you (not considered a higher up🙄🙄) Has skeletons in his closet. Jealousy makes people do All kinds of things 🙄🤭. Fear as well🙄🤭. Continue to Stay Blessed. NEVER, forget you are a Marine. I AM proud of you, and many others that served with Dignity!💯. Thank you!🕊️ Sending prayers to you and yours. You Are Healed. I declare it. Gratitude 🎉💝💐

29 stumps was the deciding factor in my decision to get out of the Corps. When I was there the town consisted of one four way intersection with one of the roads ending at the main gate, during the day it was so hot it would melt the polish off your boots and at night it was cold enough to make your teeth chatter, sidewinders and scorpions were freakin everywhere! I request transfer to anywhere, including Gitmo just to get outta that place but had no luck. Had I re enlisted I would have been stuck there for another year before being rotated to the rock. I just couldn’t do it, 2 years of that shithole was enough.

You made the right career choice. Going into RE helped you heal, and that woman probably saved your life by steering you to that career vs going LEO. That first 1st Sgt is weak and his type is bad for morale and bad for the Corps.

IMO every military branch owes it to every single soldier to look out for them mentally. PTSD is a real thing that can devastate you if not addressed and treated very delicately and this is why suicide is such a big. Substance issues mask and comfort all traumatic experiences. People are aging as they go through this and this is traumatic too, getting old sucks.

I feel bad for people who went to Afghanistan. I was 26 and been out of the Army since 97. I was asked to rejoin after 9/11. I knew my military history. I read almost every book on war and every conflict since WW1. The recruiter emailed me and called me. I told him. The Russians lost in Afghanistan. Why would the US do any better? Recruiter told me to fuck off. I was right over 20 years later. We would loose and waste of money and lives. I pity 9/11 vets who joined because of this event. I never undertook the fighting and ass grabbing in the Corps. In the Army certain units would do this. I had it happen to me once. Never again after that. You don’t need the stress of somone tryin to kick your ass just because. It makes people paranoid not stronger for war..
