it's an Asian thing, Chinese people believe that too. It's probably from olden times before you had nice warm shower rooms. Bathing in the river when you already have a cold is bad idea.

for me, my parents said not to take bath if you have a high fever, unless it's scrubbing your body with a towel dipped in warm water. So it may be an Asian thing, they said cold water will make your body colder
