In commonwealth countries, the Patrol Pathfinder units is a highly selected unit. Maybe even on par with the U.S 75th Rangers but with more of a long range reconnaissance role. The Canadian Patrol Pathfinder course is 3 months long while the U.S Pathfinder school is a 3 week course, and the U.S Ranger school is 2 months. The "Patrol" in Patrol Pathfinders reminds me of the U.S Long-range reconnaissance patrol units, LRRPs in Vietnam. I remember watching a old school documentary about this course and there was a U.S Ranger attending the course, likewise ours to their Ranger school.

Not entirely sure where you got your information from, but it's a tad incorrect. For one, RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) is approximately 8 weeks. You then have the Army's Parachutist Course which is approximately 3 weeks if I recall correctly. You then have Jumpmaster, Sniper, SERE, Military Free-Fall, Combat Divers course, and Special Operations Combat Medic course. This doesn't include the "Big 5" training you will recieve IF you are selected for the 75th. The 5 includes marksmanship, physical training, medical training, small unit tactics, and mobility. Now keep in mind the 75th is part of USASOC (US Army Special Operations Command), so they're certainly trained to a much higher standard than your basic Pathfinder or Infanteer as you guys say in Canada. Don't even get me started on the Regimental Reconnaissance Company, who's selection is another month of top of the training they've already conducted, as well as a 42-week-long Operator Training Course, including free-fall training, computers, advanced communications, digital photography, photo editing, reconnaissance reporting formats, fieldcraft and stalks, infiltration and exfiltration methods, close-air support, CQB-techniques, unarmed hand-to-hand combat, advanced driving techniques, marksmanship, demolitions, tactical man-tracking and advanced medical techniques. Pathfinders are cool though, but certainly not 75th Ranger Regiment material.

To note this course in the CF is open to all candidates, if your SF you still will have to go to the course if the unit requires, So if you see a dude with a blured face its the sf side same with rank qualification courses, Our pathfinders are in the same roles as other pathfinders but with a spicy twist. Can do a lot more and its more like a ranger qualification for the 75th. Wish I had the opportunity back in the day but was only open to infantry then :(

Had an old NCO that was a pathfinder, he had some wild stories about night jumps, joint training ops with US groups and everything in between. It was ridiculous, buddy was trained as a combat diver, EOD, Airborne infantry, combat medic, radio communications field operator and god knows what else that he didn't disclose. I've never met someone as fast and quiet as this dude, if you didn't see him move you'd think he just appeared behind people. He had one night jump where one mates leg got tangled and essentially de-gloved a large portion of his leg from his ankle to the knee, right at the start of a 3 day mission. Buddy survived alright but I Can't imagine how brutal those 3 days would have been.

As a former Canadian airborne regiment member I can safely comment that Airborne path finders original task was locating and preparing Drop Zones or DZ'S for airborne parachute and air drop operations . This roll expanded to include beach landings and insurgents as well as Air Landing Zones for helicopters or LZ. Assault river crosings and resonance and assistance in disarming bridges for capture. Bareing in mind this dates back to WW2 when beach landings where primarily a Navy concern and river crossings where an engineering operation .

Canadians have all the jump training MOS americans have sniper units we have the sniper MOS ... and so on ... CSOR is a specific type of unit (I was a captain with CSOR for four years). Canadian military hasnt been able to figure out what branch they are since 68 when they combined the forces. Now they are gender confused. The vandoos 22 regiment was the best.

I love it when others have an interest in our Cf. Sadly Canadians and the Canadian gov don't really care. 2nd biggest nation by land mass and we have one of the smallest poorly equipped militaries on the planet. What our strengths are is we do have one of the most professional and well trained militaries on the planet. I wish we would invest and grow the military. Sadly just like ww2 it'll take another world War for Canadians and canadian gov to care and invest.

Dude. We have the 21st ranked military on the planet. We do NOT have anybody to defend against, either. So it's just a matter of getting what we need to fulfill our various Ally commitments better. After the US, China and Russia, every other military is small. You took the dishing on your own, a little too far into the bullshiat place.
