In 63 when President Kennedy was killed our band in Germany was issued our fighting gear and we went to the East German border. Yes bands must be ready to fight. I was a clarinet player.

Great them

I took my boy's to air shows. I taught them history. My uncle was killed at Iwo. My othe uncle fought on the canal. My dad was korea. They begged me not to join. I did not. Regret of my life. Now have three sons serving in the corps. I couldnt be more proud

Who else could give you chill bumps. Only the Marines.

As an old Marine, I can't get over the integration of those tiny women into every formation.

This is a most amazing band, 2 years in a row they performed in Sydney,Australia at the Royal Easter Show at Moore Park in the 80's or 90's and I then heard and saw them in Honolulu when I was travelling to the USA, absolutely amazing. Bravo Pacific Marine Corps Band.

NO!! Your Brothers are not former MARINES, They are "Marines", you shouid know better!! Once a Marine always a MARINE!!!!!!. It Is a title you earn and take to the grave, you actually take it to heavon to guard the streets there as well!!!!

USMC plays so beautifully! They’re so sharp with their everything, it’s amazing!

I was stationed there from December 1960 until November 1963. Breaks my heart when I go back and see what has happened to the Marine Barracks Pearl Harbor area. The last time I was there there was a Navy band in the barracks/rehearsal hall building where the band was housed. Fond memories to be sure.

They have such commanding presence!

The individual service hymns are played in order of the service as in Army Navy Air Force, Marines....yes the best for last!! semper Fi!!

I could listen to the Marine Corps Band 24 hours a day 7 days a week, that is just the Marine Corps coming out in me, u just don't spend 8 years in the Corps and not want to be a Marine after u get out

The USMC is the only American military band that rivals the British and Scottish armed forces in pageantry and tradition. If only we had the Great Highland Bagpipes ....

This is just a field band. The President's Own IS better than most/all the British military bands.

@@Its_shiki_time4876 the trumpets missed quite a few notes and their intonation was off during certain phrases. The gunny didn't realize she is not obligated to move her left hand 100% of the time, the pieces started at one tempo and got much slower, even the piccolo solo had a flub... That's just a bit of the things I heard. The drum major was on point.

That colors sequence has to rank up in the top ten of unacceptable performances. All you had to do was ask since you were unsure of what to do with the colors presentation. You would have been given this: Here is the technique, per the MDW: The color guard team will enter at Port (weapons), both colors on right side with left hand holding the staff just above the belt, right hand in the strong grip position. The flags only dip if necessary to make it through a doorway or entry. They dip and come back to Port in order: US then organizational. When dipped, the US spade must be conspicuously higher. The signal for the playing of the National Anthem is the Color Sgt's command of Present Arms at which point the rifle guards will go to present. The flag bearers remain at Port, the organizational flag does not dip. On the conclusion of the National Anthem the Color Sgt will call Port Arms, rifle guards go to Port and remain there for the march out.

I noticed that members of the band were ranked E-5 and above with very little time in the Corps. has that become the norm for the entire Marine Corps!

It's doubtful. USMC musicians, at least in some organizations (the band in DC for certain), are the only Marines that have certain privileges of rank and omission of certain duties, for example, non-traditional training, etc. While I'm no expert, it's possible that the rank, etc. of these Marines is not commensurate with that of a "regular" Marine due to their musical function. Any non-musical USMC personnel are still the same tough Leathernecks we're all familiar with. And that is not to say that these aren't "regular" Marines, but at least *some* musicians in the USMC don't have to meet the same standards as "regular" Marines.

And I'm not trying to lay any shade on USMC musicians. The DC Band/Presidents' Own is one of (if not THE) finest military band(s) on the planet, and I recently heard the USMC Drum & Bugle Corps and they just about "slew" me as effectively as the 1st Division would've on Guadalcanal 77 years ago with their power and accuracy.

@@renaissongsman These folks are regular Marines with the musician MOS. By the time they complete the School of Music, most are Lance Corporals. They advance like all the rest of the Marines. The members of The President's Own US Marine Band, in Washington DC, are professional musicians who enter at the rank of Staff Sergeant. They do not complete recruit training.

I'm not sure what you're seeing. A sergeant with a hash mark and staff sergeants with at least one. I do see a sergeant with no hash mark, but it's not uncommon for a Marine to reach sergeant in their first enlistment. Yes, "The President's Own" are professional musicians who do not go through recruit training (except for those who are accepted from within the Marine Corps already). They start at staff sergeant. "The Commandant's Own" is a non-deployable unit, though individuals have volunteered to be attached to other units to be deployed. Their military mission is defense of Marine Barracks Washington if the battalion deploys. The 10 field bands are fully deployable units. Marines of "The Commandant's Own" and the field bands go through weapons qualification and resident leadership courses like the rest of the Marine Corps.

Of course they should scare you because they could break your neck or kill you in seconds if you do something you shouldn't , all of our men and women are trained in hand to hand combat in top of being highly skilled marksmen

@@anthonyhowe1419 read the drill manual regarding color guards. It's different. There's another comment on this video explaining why that color guard was worse than a freshman JROTC color guard.

The Marine Drum and Bugle Corps had women wear the male cover when performing to make everyone uniform. Sometime in the 90's, it was changed so the public didn't think there were no women in the unit. Instead, I got questions like, "Why do women wear different hats?"
