    My list from least to most useful 5) Medic because of everything you said 4) Tecker - Because smart ass exists and the drone isn't that useful, gets killed easily too. 3) Sargent - the increase of Command points and the stop stress button are amazing 2) Gunner - bring in the boom! 1) Recon - you can't lose a fight if you never get into one.

    Nightmare difficultly makes Recon way less OP. The detection times are insane. Im gonna just bring more smart guns and hide and wait.

    Medic needs a passive perk "emotional support" which reduces stress very slowly while undetected or after the team has rested in a safe area it brings the stress teir down by 1. If the medic had either one of those, it would be in my top 3 for assault teams

    That would be good but may be very VERY abusable. It would have to be only by a certain amount while moving for time reduction. The rest is a good idea though.

    Even on teams of 4 marines, on high difficulties, I strongly recommend 2 snipers. They can eliminate 2 targets instantly (very useful on infinite onslaught), also you have 2 positions to eliminate sleeping drones or approaching targets. Usually your sniper is in a bad position to take out an enemy that is gonna detect your squad in seconds, so you must move your squad, so sniper will have a direct line of fire. Sergeant has an ability to freeze the stress, best used on massive onslaughts. On replay, when you know the levels and events, medic is useless, that 30 stress reduction on healing is not a big deal. I hope they revamp the class somehow, what I have in mind is less recovery days for injured marines if medic treated them in the field or unique ability to pickup samples (or the number of samples, for example a marine can pick 4 samples from a queens body, while medic, with biology knowledge, can pick 8)

    My top is based on this question - without which class others don't shine. Considering early game, considering 4 char team and overall utility. 1. Recon - vision through walls, silent sniper rifle one shot are great. Battle scanner - meh, you should have enough of stationary motion trackers deployed to ever need this skill. Passives - fast is oki'sh, lvl 10 -25% detection time is very useful. *Cute that your recon is clumsy :) Sad to see there was no redemption for him. 2. Sergeant - stress is THE ISSUE in the game, not resources, not ammo. Sergeant mitigates a lot of it from level 6 - fantastic active skill for 1 comm point. In the end less stress saves you a lot of resources. +10% bravery is a nice passive, too. lvl 10 passive on rest is a good help in tough spots. Just a pleasant bonus, nothing crazy. All of his upgrades are really solid: +1 comm point, -10 cooldown regen, +5% bravery for class. Agreed about team spirit. *My core team has 7 command points. 3. Gunner - best dps in the game (9 dps at 50% hit rate over 3 seconds on level 3 (!!) char. *I calculated every weapon as per 3 second bursts to have comparative numbers as each weapon has different burst timers from 0.75 seconds and up while taking into account median damage on each wpn. Example: plasma was 7,5 (can't recall exact number), smg 5, pulse 6, heavy pulse 6.75. Simple calculation - average dps per shot from 1 to 2 = 1.5 average, burst 2 = 3 dps multiplied by how many bursts the weapon does in 3 seconds, lets say 4 bursts at 0.75 equals to 1.5 x 2 x 4 = 12 divided by 50% hit chance = 6 dps per 3 second comparison or 2 per 1 (I stick with 3 seconds not to complicate it more, even though it's meant to be damage per second, so in this case dps per 3 seconds for overall comparison). One aspect I am not aware of is how the crit/dismember procs are calculated - is it based on burst or each bullet within a burst. Because if per burst = everyone is close, if per bullet - any weapon that does more shots per burst wins regardless of dps if you have high dismemberment stat. So considering all that wall of text - gunner is and can be the best solo dps in the game. Especially with the place-able M56 on tripod +submachine gun in hand. Yet that requires preparation. 4. Tecker - tactical drone gives additional utility and gameplay options +team dps. Hack is available to anyone who has Smart-ass. Where Tecker shines is lvl 10 free hacks for anyone. That is absolutely golden. But that makes class a very late bloomer, unless drone is a core gameplay for you. To me it's a preference. 5. Medic - barely useful to be frank, maybe +1hp on rest, which still doesn't alleviate the recuperation timer of received damage after battle. Level 10 passive is actually very good if you have a tough mission where you power through and then have -30% recuperation. Does it work for anyone or medic has to be in this mission - no idea.

    I'll put tecker to no.2 because of the drone. With drone you could explore the map and see which room you need to go and which you don't. On nightmare it is imposible to search every room so planning your waypoint is very important. The other thing is combining drone and turrent you could make a deadly trap to wipe out a large group of aliens without being detected. The tecker has the same fuction with the recon: avoid being detected. That make them no.1 and no. 2

    Oh gosh I really want to try that, I just finished a deployment where the first go around on this level my squad had no gunners and it was a real struggle, had to extract and switch out my team. The next team had two gunners on it and I just had a much much better time and was able to get through with very little damage done to my Marines 👍🏼 gunners really do kick ass

    Id personally rate the sergeant much higher, keeping trauma down, more and faster command point regeneration, which gives you more mines and sniper shots to avoid fights, or more abilities if you get into a fight

    The only reason he is not higher is because I deem the rest of the Classes more valuable. That might be different for other people, according to their playstyle.

    After my first playthrough, I went super quick for an upgraded sniper with my second playthrough on nightmare. Man, that made things so easier from the start

    It's pretty much the most needed Class in the game. You need the Stealth capabilities they bring to the table.

    Agreed on most points here. Medic can serve as a crutch for new players on a Story playthrough but it's traits need a major overhaul. Pre-APC I recommend running a squad of Sergeant / Tecker / Gunner / Recon and when you get the APC and your 5th slot, put either another Recon or Gunner in. Recon if you're on a 1st deployment and want to avoid raising the Hive aggressiveness. Gunner if you know you're going into a scripted onslaught or looking to smash a Hive and it's Queen. Two Gunners with the Advanced Tracking System (focus fire with Kill That Bastard) will absolutely melt a Queen, especially if you have the Sergeant/Recon providing Suppressive Fire and an RPG for good measure. Whichever of the remaining squad members isn't using the RPG should use a Flamethrower to deal with the Facehuggers that usually come with the Queen.

    #1 has to be the Recon. Recon = MVP. I mean, they wear capes. C'mon. Tecker and Gunner are tied for #2 to me. The Tecker's hacking and drone are awesome. The drone can scout for you and pull enemies into ambushes. Once I realized the Drone was essentially a true recon unit, the Tecker became a real contender. The Gunner because the smartgun. Period. Can't go wrong with a hail of bullets. LET'S ROCK!!!

    For those wondering I just figured out how to reroll classes if you get ones for a character you don't want. First have multiple soldiers ready to promote to level three, at least two. Then look at all their class options first. Once you PICK a class for one soldier it will reroll the options you saw for the other soldiers. If you save it the options you saw are saved. So find a good fit, save it, then keep picking it until the other soldiers get a class you like. Hopes this helps, it did for me. If you don't like any of the class choices, you'll have to reload the last save before extracting out of a level to reroll them ALL.

    Depends on the play style i guess. Tecker and Sergent is at least top 2 for me for the reason as Tecker is good for redirecting enemy movements and setting up choke point ambush with drone noise to lure to your 5 sentry/mine/apc while your squad is undetected and Sergent is for your stress issue, you can get additional xp for all massive onslaught without rest nor increasing stress to lvl1

    Hmmm based on my playstyle i'll put tecker above recon, the drone ability to scouting the terrain ahead is really valuable for me, drone welding also save my teams a couple of times while retreating from hunts.

    @@MistaFiOth okay I will keep that in mind. Right now it's hard to promote because my first squad all of them are in the medic center so I just deploy with new recruits..I need to find out to eliminate all these health status so they are ready for every deployment

    Honestly I would ranked them by tiers instead. S - Rank: Recon: Recon is must take period. Silently remove patrols is unmatched. A - Rank: Gunner, Tech, Sarge: The Gunner, Tech, And Sarge all have great strengths. Gunner is nice for fights, Sarge makes Stress ez and lets you use abilities more, Tech for doors w/o using a skill slot on another character and drone support D - Rank: Medic: Just feels like it was an afterthought. It doesn't really have a purpose imo. Maybe if it had an ability where it could use a medical supply to make the squad immune to damage for a few seconds or something or lower hive aggressiveness? I dunno really just not a well implemented class. The stress on heal is kinda w/e because the Sarge's Reprimand, and Resting makes Stress management a breeze.

    @@MistaFiOth No worries Im just giving how I view the class breakdown. I just think the tier system better delineates the value of the classes rather than a 1-5. Medic is much worse relative to the other classes than a 5th class vs 4th class suggests imo.

    Recon is great but I'm not finding Recon as viable when playing in Nightmare mode. The enemy detection line fills so fast you can't get the shot off before you are detected unless they're at least 30 mtrs away. it'a a lot less forgiving than say medium difficulty. Maybe when the recon reach level 10 for the 25% delayed detection bonus they can get those snap shots off again at shorter distances.

    My biggest issue with the doc is that the Sgt does what I wish it did. That and there's a lot of synergy between the gunners and sgt to the point that it makes the doc redundant. And what I mean is while you're on an onslaught(or hunt) you can pop the Sgts ability to negate stress for 30 seconds. And if your stress is near the point of inducing trauma you're going to maximize your gunners fire rate(at level 10) But even then negating stress is huge, that and once things calm down you can find a room to rest in and not waste med kits. And if you run with team spirit and have your sgt with a fully upgraded backpack that 1 command point is going to make or break your defense Now I haven't played in the highest difficulty so this might not apply to that and the doc may actually be more useful there. But so far not having one, whether it's a team of 4 or 5, isn't making the game harder. I recommend running a sgt, gunner, treck, and recon. And then once you get your 5th run a second gunner. 2 free sentry guns on top of the 5 you can carry is an unbeatable combo.

    I wonder if the normal sentry guns should be a special weapon that competes with RPGS/Mines/Flamethrower/Sniper slot just for balancing purposes. I love them but they seem too numerous and too good.

And like you pointed out, if you start taking physical damage you need to stop what you're doing immediately and reevaluate your approach and possibly pull out from your current run just to reset because I can guarantee most of the damage you'll take is while moving through the corridors.

    If you were to do a class tier list for speedrunning, would you still rank medic last? Extra health and faster healing sounds good for going fast.

    Welcome to the Crops, Marine! o7 They have been patching consistently, last update came out about a month ago. No official plans for DLC, but I suspect we're gonna see some, based on the studio's history.

    most of my gameplay in this game has been stealth and having a 1. Recon, they save me a lot with the silence gun and taking out the unnecessary detection xD 2. Sargent - it would've been much CP a lot for Recon's sniper skills. Keeping my marine's Stress on halt. 3. Tecker - for opening the door, drone weld so far out while my marine running away / doing something important and dropping mines. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to take shortcuts with ciphering the locked door, and having an extra gunner drone as a distraction just so my marine health still has at least 1-2 armors. 4. Gunner - Placing turrets and upgrading them, mostly bringing Flamethrower and the smart gun to "Suppressing the enemies". 5. Medic - I haven't brought medic till a certain stage that allowed u to bring 5 Marines to the mission, i rarely get injured for my team. so in the meantime, 3 medics in training whileIi have 4marinese in the squad. Now, im waiting for custom mods like Star Wars Clone Troopers with Geonisian as Alien, hope there's mod pack for Epic Games 😔

    They go into the related folder, just like with Stream. Modders usually provide directions.

    Sergeant should be top spot along with recon. With 2 sergants the game becomes super easy. You have lots of points and fast point regen, which allows your recon to snipe away frivolously, or to be able to dish out lots of utility during fights. And reprimand can make you completely immune to stress, if you don't forget to use it continuesly during hunts and fights. You can complete entire missions without need to rest because Reprimand can be that good in the right hands.

    Agreed. These are all very meta things to do though, discovered by the community throughout the game's life. This vid was made when it came out.

    Great list, although personally I would have swapped Sergeant and Gunner. CP boosts and regen are just way too good to pass (and unlike Gunners they don't wear silly "arm stockings" 😀). As for the Recon...going on a mission without one with the silenced sniper rifle equipped is basically suicide. What confuses me is how schizophrenic it is to see how many classes with so many perks for combat (and the aftermath of combat) the devs designed in a game that so utterly and severely punishes you for engaging your enemies. Once you unlock the Recon and the silenced Sniper Rifle this game 100% becomes a hardcore stealth game where you more or less only fight in hardcoded battles, or you're screwed. At least on higher difficulties. Once you go over Alien Aggressiveness: "Easy" on the highest difficulty (= roughly 2x detection), you're basically a dead man walking due to how costly each hunt is going to be for your squad. I seriously wish they had made the action less punishing and the game as a whole way less hardcore Metal Gear Solid.

    They've stated that they will be rebalancing and rethinking stuff. They are adding a Mode without Doom Clock, for example. We'll have to wait and see.

    1-2) SGT should definitely be 1 or 2, the bonus command points and command point recharge means more sniper shots, more landmines, more all abilities. 1-2) Recon, the other 1 or 2 place. that sniper rifle is the only real way besides mines to prevent fights. 3*)Tecker solid middle (3rd), free hacking skill, later no tools to hack, the battle drone is amazing, bait for calling a fight into a trap, I save my ammo on it for big fights, and the TURRET OVER CHARGE SUPPRESSING FIRE!!! if the Recon and SGT werent up there, the Tecker would be first for that alone. 4) Gunner smart gun is early fire power boost, the smart gun turret, is less useful since normal turrets are better, but it does add an extra gun when needed. The High Impact bullets makes it useful even later boosting all suppressing fire. 5) Medic, the class that can stay home until you have 5 slots. Armor is flat out better than HP, if only for acid immune and preventing injuries.

    Just remember, if you have every 10 to 20 Marines that they're in Level 3, make sure you pick the class in the Barracks carefully instead of Extraction. Like, you'll have 4 Sergeants, 4 Gunners, 4 Medics, 4 Teckers and 4 Recon Classes.

    I find the medic can replace the Tecker by using the smartass perk and even though you lose 1 perk point for doing that you essentially give your whole squad the tough perk just for 30 materials with combat drugs. The only thing you miss out on is the drone which is nice for having a free mobile distraction for aliens but you can get the same thing accomplished by using command points to set up motion trackers which is something everyone should be doing already and it doesn't take materials to do so. So for me my list would be: 5: Tecker Not a bad class but it feels the most replaceable to me due to smartass perk until you get your 5th slot 4: Medic Combat drugs helps with early game survival before your marines have all of their defensive perks, faster healing speed can be life or death if 1 of your marines gets knocked unconscious mid hunt 3: Gunner The extra firepower of the smartgun is nice but the buff to suppressive fire for the whole squad is one of the most useful upgrades in the game 2: Sergeant +10 bravery and the extra command point/faster point recovery upgrades are huge, definitely a must have due to how impactful command points are and how big of a deal stress is 1: Recon Suppressed precision shot is goated, infrared goggles also help a ton as well because even if you know every mission 100% there can still be random sleeping drones that weren't there before plus being able to tell the different between cultists, normal aliens, and crushers/praetorians before you see them is very helpful.

    Nah sharpshooter is my favorite without a doubt. Saved me at least 3 hours less of fighting due to that silent sniper. I remember finishing an entire level besides the last objective without being seen.

    I agree with that. The Tecker is useless - his only good skills are at L10 and you're unlikely to reach that as you'll be bringing other soldier classes instead. Plus the drone's gun uses precious ammo clips. Plus his only use for opening doors can be done by anyone with the Smart-ass skill. Recon can get its best skill (silent sniper) at L3. A Gunner gets its best skill (high impact rounds on the smart gun) at L3. The Sergeant has lots of useful skills and the Medic can reduce stress with each heal at L3. Until they move the Tecker's best skills down to L3 / L6 and make the drone SMG have infinite ammo like the secondary weapons (perhaps with reduced damage or a long reload time, if that's too OP), I'm not wasting a slot on him.

    I would highly argue against that, Tecker is actually an S-tier list, based on my experience soloing the ground level of Atmospheric Nightmare with only a single tech. The drone is actually OP not only it helps with the DPS and it acts as a repairable armor since the aliens destroy it first before getting to the marine (although highly against a frontal confrontation). The noise distraction made a Tecker the other only class viable for solo besides a recon (no brainer here) and added to the ability to unlock every door then I would argue that the class is better than a recon (without a smart ass perk). During defensive missions and onslaughts, a Tecker can upgrade the turret to have suppressive fire and more damage essentially making the gunner obsolete.

    Class tier list are pretty redundant when you can pick one of each and buffs do not stack and are often unnecessary to have redundancy in active skills. Only medic needs redesign though.

    It depends entirely on the difficulty. As I've said before the recon is utterly useless on nightmare. Ive completed it twice on nightmare. Second playthrough i disabled the minimap which i suggest. Brilliant playthrough. For nightmare though my list is Gunner , Medic , Sargent, techy , recon. Medic is invaluable on nightmare as the bonuses for increased health help along with stress relief against the higher difficulty damages. When infestation level increases they become superb to have as your going to get detected wether you like it or not.

    Imma maje seperate post bout the classes if i do more than one so ill start with medicl two things they can do is take morphine and pair it with the xeno researsh for pain meds can drop you near 2 levels if done right as well the medic prevents damage from the people with the negative trait that hurts marines when you rest during missions.

    @Mista_FiOth I see the benefit of the trauma perk now we were talking bout it before and I was watching gameplay so the benefit now is that with the newer version it gives one tick so paired with the trauma unit on ship you will lose 3 ticks a day vs two meaning that you get a whole bracket erased for every day in the trauma unit. I do feel this change was made a counter to the previous tactic I told you before which was to let them accumulate trauma than place them in intensive traing for three days which was super op when pair with the tired perk.

    In the meantime, the Trait ‘Rebel’ (unit unaffected by Reprimand) makes their last class perk usable. Side note: it would be nice if they had a ‘Second Wave’ difficulty settings page like X-COM, where you can choose the doomsday clock difficulty & the ability to have all common perks available on screen when levelling up your marines. Like, let me choose how they train please Tindalos…

    Haven't tested the M56 ACT for the Gunner. It just seemed so bad putting the smartgun on stilts and leaving my best shooter with a toy gun. I'd rather have the Demolitionist's shoulder rockets from Fireteam Elite than the M56 ACT and the Fireteam Elite Gunner's overclock as the Lvl 10 skill. Now THAT would have been something...or probably not, since this game is basically Metal Gear Solid with Aliens anyway. The unarguably most usefull skill in this game would be a portable Alien Isolation closet 😀

    It's for hard defense. Tripod has 100% accuracy, so more damage and ammo efficiency. And on top of that you get additional damage from SMG.

    Stress can be completely avoided with a level 6 sergeant. 2 reprimands for every detected and you can go forever before you hit 100%

    Sergeant is the best class. Reprimand is the most broken ability in the game, and if used properly with Command Points it essentially cancels out the Stress factor entirely.

    And honestly, the medic does disappoint i think from simply not having the same deep pockets perk like xcom. I love how different this game plays, BUT in xcom, medic with deep pockets - 1 medkit equals 3 is ALWAYS my game changing major upgrade. So yeah. The medic serves a purpose, but it doesnt feel as fulfilling.

    Never skip a class. They're all useful. The only two that are interchangeable early on are recon and gunner. One is for stealth, one is for fighting. So if you can plan to do one or the other instead of both, that's how you can slice this cake. Medic is great because he can reduce stress for heals, provide health for rests and extra health in general but pick up comatose squaddies. Gunner is the least versatile is pure combat focus.

    I got through the city streets of Pharos Spire with two Sgt and three Recons. Keeping up the Command charges. On a third play through my Teckers will not have drones. Late game they just become a kid's helium balloon that gets popped. Since the patch, I am rethinking Mind of Steel. With enough bench warmers, I can place Trauma into the psych room. Second tier weapons have infinite ammo. (hand guns and sub-mach). I am also going to test Recon sniper without silencer - since I want to know what the difference is. The battle scanner cost a Tool per use. It might be helpful to locate key locations which are guarded, but with an eventual memory for the maps - I feel it will be redundant.

    @@MistaFiOth I have only just started my third play through. I want to try different selections within classes, and if possible choose the triple star attributes for extra accentuation. Although I agree that Pouches is practically a must have - what if instead I picked combat orientated for a gunner - for instance. It is early days. I noted that if you get Unbreakable Will (anti-tired) that marine can be immediately pulled from Intense Training and not suffer through the Exhausted phase. I have two major combats to get through in my current map. The last being a Queen battle. (I want to break free...) As an interesting goal, I will use all rookies just to see how much XP is gained. I learned through my last play I get a better feel for managing Materials expenses. And from first my playthrough I had excessive Materials left over at the end of the game. So, I am going to try and skip selecting Looter. I am playing on Easy, so a higher income maybe a must for advanced game difficulty. So I want to look at attributes that will work for the entire game length, than just early to mid. And a funny thing happened. I had 43 Materials, and a Daily of 50 cost for the med-bay to stay operational. The game accepted the 43, set the value to zero. I assume that this is a bug that should patched. Also, I feel that the XP from a Onslaught isn't really that much in return. As a test, I intentionally set these off and the XP was rather low value. In early maps, I place a series of Mobile Scanners around the ARC M540. As a way to draw out xenos, clear passages or just reduce their presence to make goal acquisition easier. I will let you know if I learn anything particularly useful.

    @@MistaFiOth Tested Recon without Silencer perk. It is a total must. Without it, the only thing that Sniper gives is a headshot kill and at long range. Without Silencer, the Sniper rifle's loud retort does alert nearby enemies to the squad's location.

    Seargant, gunner, recon, smart*ss and you are set. Medics with their reduce stress on healing, faster healing and additional hp stuff are nice... but you can easily life without. Tecker is simply put redundant cause of smart*ass, the drone isn´t worth much either. Sergeant´s ability to freeze stress and increase command point gain is nice to have, add 2 gunner 2 recon and that´s it. Smart*ss on one and that´s it. But then again i can see how other setups would work if one has a different playstyle. Also you aren´t always in the position to chose your preferred marines, if they are in the medbay or trauma treatment, exhausted etc. Which is kinda nice as this forces you to go our of your comfort zone. In general i like the level system in it´s idea but the random skills are a bit of a downer and that weapons are restricted to levels is sort of maeh too. A level 1 soldier is already at a disadvantage for being a level one, why you need to further restrict his usefulness by forcing him to use low level weapons is weird. A really great game, specially considered the pricetag. A gem in nowdays times. Has surely it´s weaknesses but in general great experience. (spoiler : The ending "mission" could have as well just been a cutscene, like really it was anticlimactic). One thing i hope they do with a possible second game, multiple deploys, larger squads. And that the game on higher difficulty spawns more aliens instead of making them just more tanky.

    @@MistaFiOth It´s easy to be positive about the game, even so it´s not perfect (but what game really is), you get an amazing experience for 40 euros. Compare that with your tripple a titles of today where you start at 70 bucks for the base game, can easily go up to 100+ and the experience is usually worse. Not sure about dlc for this game, it´s rather "complete" as is, a dlc would be either stand alone or would have to have them rework the entire campaign to fit in. I sure would be on board with whatever additional content, preferably one that extends the campaign. Or like a "back on lethe" after the nuclear purge to see what is still "alive" and realize the purge didn´t achieve much. I would also be fine with them doing another game like this, and improve on some things to make it even better. Would purchase either dlc or second game of them without a 2nd thought.
