Hitchhiking used to be a normal way for Sigonella people to get around. One finger being shown meant going to NAS 1, two fingers meant NAS 2, and a 3rd signal meant Navy beach housing. For a while I drove a Navy truck with supplies including things like diapers and groceries out to Navy Beach housing to make things easier for the Sigonella folks there.

Back in1980, I was 15 and met a Lcpl. Marine, who was home on leave. I was to marry him when I turned 18. Unfortunately, he was shot on base while doing guard duty. He was paralyzed most of his life. He passed away in 2015. Rest in peace my dear sweet friend Lcpl. David Finley.

I was wondering if the Base offers/allows Canadian retirees (20 + years) from the military to get accommodation and use the Base facilities while travelling to lovely Sicily? Planning a trip next September. Warmest thanks for any info you may offer.

When it comes to overseas housing for Navy, none comes close to Bahrain. We live like Queen and Kings in Bahrain with top notch facilities, including even cleaning

@5starfamilyadventures Yes, that's the only down turn of Bahrain but it's a pretty small Island. Night life is second to none. So safe here to me than most places in the States.
