Ah, another great song from my early teens. Marina's absolutely fantastic. I really like her voice, it's so good and so interesting. I could see her in a group, she's got something really special about her. I think if Marina and the Diamonds was a band, I could see her as the lead singer.

It represents to me that love is always there, even when you cannot see it or feel it anymore, is always shining. Definetely a sad era, it was years ago lol. But i am happy that i sort of remind myself of seeing always the bright side of a broken heart

this was actually supposed to be on an unreleased album named "die Life" which the "die" means "the" in german. basically electra heart and family jewels had a kid. other songs like scab & plaster, miss y, or radioactive were supposed to be in it!

I've always thought it's about cheating. The man is crying as he confesses to Marina (after his granny dies!), He uses the timing to hope she will not be mad at him as she isn't going to hurt him anymore than the death did... Of course stars are so far away, they could be dead by the time we are actually seeing their light. So Marina didn't see the relationship was dead while looking into it yet; just as we see the star as if it is alive, she saw their love as alive. Now she's wiser and sees that it has been dead for a long time (because he cheated/whatever event he fessed up to after his granny died).

I'm thinking it might have been about her father since tfj era revolved around the relationship between him and her. Possibly, her father's mother died and he took it out on her out of grief and pain. And like what @Sadie Creel said about the stars, it was pretty obvious their father/daughter relationship was pretty dead.
