Marilyn Monroe's Secret Diet and Exercise Routine Uncovered

Ойын-сауық

Hello lovelies, I was so excited when I stumbled upon a 1952 edition of Pageant Magazine that reveals Marilyn Monroe's diet and exercise routine. In the September 1952 edition of Pageant Magazine, the late star revealed her extraordinary diet to the world in a feature that was titled "How I Stay in Shape."
Marilyn describes her light workout routine and her liquid Breakfast of two raw eggs beaten into a glass of warm milk. She consistently ate this for Breakfast, even while traveling. Marilyn never dined out for dinner; instead, she would stop at a market near her hotel for steak, liver, or lamb chops, which she'd broil herself using an electric oven. On the side, she'd eat raw carrots. And when she wanted to treat herself, it was all about an ice cream sundae.
"It's a good thing, I suppose, that I eat simply during the day, for in recent months I have developed the habit of stopping off at Will Wright's ice cream parlor for a hot fudge sundae on my way home from my evening drama classes. I'm sure that I couldn't allow myself this indulgence were it not that my normal diet is composed almost totally of protein foods."
"Exercise. Each morning after I brush my teeth, wash my face, and shake off the first deep layer of sleep, I lie down on the floor beside my bed and begin my first exercise. It is a simple bust-firming routine that consists of lifting five-pound weights from a spread-eagle arm position to a point directly above my head. I do this 15 times, slowly. I repeat the exercise another 15 times from a position with my arms above my head. Then, with my arms at a 45-degree angle from the floor, I move my weights in circles until I'm tired. I don't count rhythmically like the exercise people on the radio; I couldn't stand exercise if I had to feel regimented about it."
"Frankly, I've never considered my own figure so exceptional; until quite recently, I seldom gave it any thought at all. My biggest single concern used to be getting enough to eat. Now I have to worry about eating too much. I never used to bother with exercises. Now I spend at least 10 minutes each morning working out with small weights. I have evolved my own exercises, for the muscles, I wish to keep firm, and I know they are right for me because I can feel them putting the proper muscles into play as I exercise."
"Sports. I have never cared especially for outdoor sports, and have no desire to excel at tennis, swimming, or golf. I'll leave those things to the men. Despite its great vogue in California, I don't think sun-tanned skin is any more attractive than white skin, or any healthier, for that matter. I'm personally opposed to a deep tan because I like to feel blond all over."
By nature, I suppose I have a languorous disposition. I hate to do things in a hurried, tense atmosphere, and it is virtually impossible for me to spring out of bed in the morning. On Sunday, which is my one day of total leisure, I sometimes take two hours to wake up, luxuriating in every last moment of drowsiness. Depending upon my activities, I sleep between five and ten hours every night. I sleep in an extra-wide single bed, and I use only one heavy down comforter over me, summer or winter. I have never been able to wear pajamas or creepy nightgowns; they disturb my sleep."
"Breakfast. I've been told that my eating habits are absolutely bizarre, but I don't think so. Before I take my morning shower, I start warming a cup of milk on the hot plate I keep in my hotel room. When it's hot, I break two raw eggs into the milk, whip them up with a fork, and drink them while I'm dressing. I supplement this with a multi-vitamin pill, and I doubt if any doctor could recommend a more nourishing breakfast for a working girl in a hurry."
"Dinner. My dinners at home are startlingly simple. Every night I stop at the market near my hotel and pick up a steak, lamb chops or some liver, which I broil in the electric oven in my room. I usually eat four or five raw carrots with my meat, and that is all. I must be part rabbit; I never get bored with raw carrots."

He dished and ranted a good bit after beers. Even as recently as the early seventies, dairies were more local. You DO have a very valid point about things steadily getting more engineer and less food. Do you have any ideas why it worked so well for her? Not sarcasm, real question. If I ate like her I would be not well. Truly interested in your thoughts

This diet and exercise plan is typical of Marilyns era. She was my childhood idol after seeing her in Some Like It Hot when I was about 10 or 12, I wanted to be just like her. My mom and I would eat the same thing for breakfast, although we had it cold and called it eggnog. And similar things for dinner, although we never knew about her diet. Also the exercises she did were recommended for women of that era. It’s also interesting to hear that one of the most desired and beautiful woman of her era cooked her own meals on a hot plate in her room.

That's not true. The 1950s was the beginning of mass production in the animal farm industries with lots of "science" coming out. Animals began being genetically modified to grow fast in a shorter period of time. It was all about money and profit and still is. There's lots of literature and research you can find about this.

Milk isn't bad for you unless you're lactose intolerant. Drink full fat, as it satiates; saturated fat isn't an issue unless you''re eating a high sugar diet alongside it. Marilyn ate a very nutritious high protein/low simple carbs diet with really good stuff like liver and full fat milk and very little sugar except for her occasional sundaes, which you can see from the photo were about 1/4 of the size of what is served nowadays. Maybe one scoop of ice-cream. Lots of simple unprocesssed foods like eggs, milk, meat and carrots, in small portions. Nothing super-complex, no 27 ingredient messes out of a box. No horrible gloopy 800 calorie dessert drinks masquerading as coffee. It makes a huge difference in terms of nutrients and calories to just eat simply and well.

  • @JRNarian

    @JRNarian

Human beings aren't supposed to be drinking milk of another species. No other animal does this. Especially past the age of weaning. Everyone is lactose intolerant - it's biological. Very few people can actually tolerate it and that was due to centuries of their bodies trying to cope with it. Cows aren't here for people to take their milk. Cow milk is meant to grow a calf very fast, and that's why cow milk is 50% fat. Human milk is 80% water. Why not take dog's milk, cat's milk, or monkey's milk, or even human milk as a full grown adult? Sounds gross right? It's learned behavior to just accept taking it from a cow as "normal." But if anyone still craves milk, there are tons of plant-based options now.

I actually read somewhere once that eating dairy can help you lose weight. I think the "no dairy" trend was really popular recently because veganism was sort of becoming mainstream and there was a lot more discussions on people who have lactose intolerences.

Ok so a couple of things. First I love these videos. Second when I was a little girl I had a beautiful doll just like the one in your background except mine had a green dress. The only doll I ever liked. I would not try the raw egg and milk diet because I don’t want salmonella. I have tried the cleansing diet with maple, cayenne and lemon water. It is a bit painful but it works. 😉 she didn’t eat much but she drank a lot and that is high in calories- she knew that. I love watching your videos on her because you make me feel like I am there with her. It’s cool! So thank you.

As a kid, my mom used to make my sisters and I a milk shake with one raw egg in it. I could never taste the egg. I always figured that was a normal thing to add to a shake. I also thought it was just a cultural thing. I know a lot of Latins that did the same thing. Very cool to find out she did it too! Now, realizing how many people are allergic to eggs, I wouldn't serve it to just anyone. I've known of someone having an allergic reaction to raw eggs in shakes!😬

  • @ImpressDivinity

I think she drank a lot of milk because back at that time it was a thing for very impoverished persons to drink glasses of milk in times of like scarcity or starvation (sometimes with animal blood in it...ew) or a glass with scarce meals with few nutrient variance because idk if it's true or not but it was thought the "heaviness" of the milk would keep you from hunger and also that it contained many nutrients that weren't provided in the diet....kind of like taking a vitamin. And you have to remember unpasteurized milk or very low pasteurized milk is different from what we are drinking today. So long story short I believe it's a habit that stuck with her from poverty and also maybe thoughts of like meal replacement / vitamin intake and healthy fat intake. That's just my thoughts though....I'm nobody so 😅☕

Milk was considered also essential for a beautiful milky buttery skin and youth. Still there are celebs drinking it for this reasons :Julia Roberts (the period she filmed "notting Hill" was said to drunk liters of milk), Hadid family drink goats milk, Ilona Staller, famous hard actress was famous also for drinking a lot of goats milk for staying young, most of Indian and Pakistani celebs (in Indian continent milk is believed to be the best food, along with butter ghee and curd).
