Marie Dressler Documentary - Hollywood Walk of Fame

Marie Dressler was a Canadian stage and screen actress, comedian, and early silent film and Depression-era film star. In 1914, she was in the first full-length film comedy. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1931.
Leaving home at the age of 14, Dressler built a career on stage in traveling theatre troupes, where she learned to appreciate her talent in making people laugh. In 1892, she started a career on Broadway that lasted into the 1920s, performing comedic roles that allowed her to improvise to get laughs. From one of her successful Broadway roles, she played the titular role in the first full-length screen comedy, Tillie's Punctured Romance , opposite Charlie Chaplin and Mabel Normand. She made several shorts, but mostly worked in New York City on stage. During World War I, along with other celebrities, she helped sell Liberty bonds. In 1919, she helped organize the first union for stage chorus players.

Bless Marie for aiding black travellers, who could not stay at white premises where they worked or performed - even had to know safe spots to bunk down. This 🇨🇦 Canadian is proud of her.

A fine video on one of the greatest vaudeville and silent film stars. Hadn't realized that she remained very popular to the end of her life in the early 30s.

Marie also served Marilyn Monroe as a strong example. MM, asked how she saw her later career (tragicay lost to us), talked of becoming a character actress "like Marie Dressler."

This Doc mentions that Marie Dressler helped a young Mack Sennett but fails to mention she told Senette to talk to her lawyer up in Boston about introducing him to some producers. the lawyer's name was Calvin Coolidge.

Why is there no organization of any of the photos in any of your videos? Do you just throw them up when you find them%?

Great actress, however first of all, so called "Marie Dressler" wasn't her real name. There was nothing wrong with his actual birth name, Leila Marie Koerber. Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Studio or Business Manager, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? In reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not earn) a greater buck?! The ONLY reason a name change should be done, is for a woman when she gets married. If a woman gets married and DOESN'T change her name, then she doesn't accept the sanctity of marriage or respect for her husband.
