I think similar to how daydream’s placement wasn’t sustainable and is one of the reasons for Butterfly’s vocal decline, her placement 2018-2020 I believe is partially responsible for her poor condition 2021-23. Especially right before the pandemic, you can almost hear the lack of sustainability with such a high placement.

Daydreams was more sustainable because she was utilizing a better technique though. She maintained an open throat and it might’ve raised slightly for higher notes but was still mixing. In 2020, she completely relied on the higher placement (nasal) for her higher notes and couldn’t utilize her mix voice which is why in songs like I’ll be there she had to growl the Eb5 note out or just hit it in falsetto

@@user-vo9tc3hu5i Mariah never used mixed voice, she always used her chest aka TA muscle. In daydream she just lightened her approach but NEVER EVER used mixed voice.
