mariah was fucking excellent in this. she definitely nailed the typical social worker mannerisms, how a social worker's body typically shifts in subtle ways, the hand placement, the eye contact. basically pitch perfect. idk how she did this, but she was absolutely compelling, and an essential part of this movie imo. far more than just a cameo. she really dedicated herself to this role. you have to respect that.

I love the fact she embodies what an actual social worker would look like. She looks like hell and considering what she usually plays around with is just an incredible juxtaposition. I love it!

Her role was small, but nonetheless important. She disappeared into it and really played Ms. Weiss like an actual person you’d know in real life.

I loved how you've got this huge artist that's always glammed up suddenly "de-glammed" and waaaay out of her comfort zone. I think Mariah did an incredible job and definitely deserves recognition for the role but I also give her kudos for being willing to go on screen looking the way she did. Yeah, actors and such do it all the time, but this is Mariah Carey we're talking about and it wasn't something we were used to seeing.

Out of everything that MC has accomplished, the music, fame, money, Grammys.. etc.. This to me is the absolute most engaging, out of the box moment in her career. She shedded the divine glamour diva image and made herself look like crap ( as beautiful as she is) and knocked it out of the park. Oscar worthy.. She made me forget about “ Glitter”… She really became the total package..

With all the due respect, the way she has been portraying herself for the last decade in real life is crap-like: boobs all the time on the outside, sexual attires leaving not a lot to immagination, tones of make up and of course abundance of filters on her social media photos to make it seem she's still 25...when she's 55. Don't get me wrong, women can dress themselves...whatever way they want to, it's their choice. But she dresses herself like (and acts as) a screaming woman in her 50s wanting desperately to show all the folks she's still in her early 20s. She's shallow and mean and I don't think that if she really feels as if she's someone of higher range than JLo then at least she shouldn't dress during her concers in a provocative short sexual costumes, as she has a voice and doesn't have to prove anything. This way, she makes a clown of herself- see: Mariah Carey New Year's Eve concert 2016. In this movie (Precious) I actually see a beautiful, modest, real and natural woman and I cannot tell the same about Mariah in real life, where she feels a constant need to shade other people and where she cannot even hug her son publically cause she's mire interested to perfectly pose to photos.

I love this whole movie. One of my fave authors. And Mariah Carey actually surprised me by playing the jaded social worker.

Mariah's performance in this role is so believable. An amazing singer AND actress. Oscar worthy.

Mariah Carey called this image of herself a "Horror Show"..... I completely disagree, I think this shows how naturally beautiful she really is without all the makeup she normally wears during her concerts and when she's in public. True she's wearing a bit of a different make up here to make her look more "drab" or "dowdy" as it were, but it doesn't make her look that way, it makes her look "normal" but also highlights how attractive she truly is without all the glam. Anyone agree?

My bff made me go see this movie while pregnant & I was horrified . It's a very disturbing film. Hearing about the girl at 3 getting molested by her dad and the mom allowing it was horrible or seeing the mom throw her newborn baby it literally made me sick to my stomach thinking a mother like that could exist & it hit me harder carrying my own son. Paul mooney was right this was a horror film. Plus sanrda bulloch winning the oscar that same year was a little annoying with the white savior complex. Yikes what a bad year for Hollywood.

I swear when first watching this I spent a helluva long time trying to realize who she was, I went through different actresses Ive seen. It wasn't until my Mother hinted to me that she wasn't an actress but a singer..then it clicked

I understand that she's more of a singer than an actress, but I partially wish that she would still act & portray fictional (live-action) characters more often. It's definitely better than nothing though, that's for sure.

To me, Carey’s tired and haggard appearance is a microcosm of what it must be like to fight a never-ending battle against abuse of those who can not defend themselves. But she fights the good fight because she is selfless.
