Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston are in a class of their own. Those two ladies, not only had/have God-given talent but they worked hard and have mad hits. Many other singers may have good voices but they are not on the level of these two ladies. They were able to become friends because talent recognizes talent.

Yes Mariah was being heavily criticized during this time. This is due in large part over the Milli Vanilli scandal. Since Mariah had done only a few live performances up until this time, many thought she may be another fake singer the music industry put out. Her voice was so unique and had such a range it was hard for people to believe a voice like that really existed and they were still really jaded by the Milli Vanilli debacle. Mariah took the opportunity with the MTV unplugged. People knew MTV unplugged reputation for microphone and live instruments and were shocked with this performance and became highly requested to play on mtv that they released it as an album and VHS of here performance. This was a pivotal moment in her career. This EP stayed on the billboard 200 charts for 57 weeks.... Wow

Yes her vocals are insane with this show. She has another single called " Bliss " that she wrote for 1999 album Rainbow that she basically whistles throughout most of the song & she is singing words into her whistles as well. Mentioning her covers she also did on her albums were " The beautiful ones " by Prince, " against all odds " by Phil Collins, " bringing on the heartbreak " by Def Leppard, " i want to know what love is " by Foreigner & " one more try " by George Michael. Oh & Badfinger was the original for Without You
