Yeah, I'm pretty sure she is trying to preserve her voice a little more. I think that's why she should more nasally recently and using more twang in her voice so she can hit those notes easier with no stress. It also does make her sound younger surprisingly. I don't think she is going to be hitting those high notes in a full tone in a while. I kinda like the nasally tho, it sounds so different from her younger years.

@@TaterTatiJillyBean of course the technical aspects are there, and there’s some seconds where the tone is there too but most of the time, specially on this recording, is too nasal and a bit unpleasant, she just has to embrace the age of her voice.

Very high amounts of pitch control software making it sound very mechanic. I know you can hear that as a singer so I'm a bit surprised you almost never talk about that.

I was really SHOCKED by this performance. It doesn't sound like her! Her once smooth tone is no longer so, and she sounds nasal. She's my all time favorite voice so it really makes me sad. This can't hold a candle to Mariah singing this back in the day.

@@codywalsh2075 Mariah always has had R&B and soul influences, but yes she did change from primarily a pop soul sound to a pop hip hop sound. Butterfly was the onset of this but overtime its gone more in the hip hop direction. It's her life so she can do what pleases her and she has nothing to prove to any of us (like I said she is my all time fave) but the material at the beginning of her career was definitely better than the later material, not just because of voice degradation over time, the songs were better then (though there are certainly gems here and there). I wish she had continued to work with Margulies and Afanasieff, even as she experimented with others but it is what it is. Had she come out in the 90's with the hip hop stuff instead of the pop stuff, her career would not have been the same. but kids these days love rappers in their pop songs, i do not.

Walter was a sellout and pretty much stabbed her in the back, margulies did her dirty with a contract she had sign from way back, he had only worked with her on 1 Album yet was being paid for every other album she did in the 90s so no, she wasn't going to work with that rat. Mariah did just fine without the 2, those 2 on the other hand didn't. Mariah doesn't make pop songs with rapper's. It's clear your prefer her "white" music... Anyways
