That whole Tokyo dome performance is truly a vocal masterclass

The audience is quiet because this is Japan! Culturally, they respect the performer by listening carefully in silence. This is the Mariah the world fell in love with. Her voice was absolutely exquisite here. She could belt so high with that candy/feminine quality with no twang or barrier at all. A fully free sound, with occasional grainy quality and lightning quick/thunder-like dynamic control for explosive belts. The lower parts are also super rich and ringing.

You can believe in me when I tell you the C&C Club remix (the one w 10 minutes) of Anytime You Need a Friend features maybe the craziest and hardest vocals of her entire discography. A must listen. It would be nice if you reacted to it

that's the ONE SONG I always bring up as her TOUGHEST VOCALS...to the Trinity debate...Whitney and Celine could not keep up with Mariah in this song (and many others)...but that song is the one that even their fanatics are taken aback!! Do MORE MARIAH LIVE!!!

Great reaction. Mariah is the absolute best. This song should have gotten more credit when it was out, especially the message,. The fact that she wrote it from the perspective of what she thought God would say to somebody who is lonely. Also, listen to the full remix. It is called the c + c remix, and it is almost 11 minutes long, and incredible. The things she does vocally in that song are 🔥🔥🔥

Yes I know she was one of only a handful of voices on the track wasn't she. It sounded like a choir but it was actually just a few people. One of whom was Kelly. And yes she's a bad ass. I react to gospel every Sunday so she's been on here a few times 😉

Mariah Carey is the best selling Western artist in Japan. Music box is one of the best selling Western albums in Japan. The audience through the concert doesn't interact in the middle of the songs cause for them Mariah is the supreme vocalist and they totally respect her. The applause is always and only at the end of every song. Because of her huge sales there Mariah included songs on her albums only for Asian markets sometimes. Mariah chose to mix the remix on the live version on daydream tour because she sung new vocals on her remixes. A trend that she is credited as the queen of remixes!

Mariah Carey is one of the best, if not THE BEST, song writers of all-time! I'm amazed and in awe, not only of her voice, but the many beautiful songs she has written! She doesn't get enough credit. Her music is amazing. I am in awe of her forever.

This is Japan. The Japanese. Feel it is respectful to stay quiet during the song and applause afterwards. She actually says during this concert you can tell where the americans are because they are the loudest people i. The audience 😅

When it picks up in the end with the choir, I lose it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also that last little riff at the end gets me every time! UGH, this live rendition is so fabulous. Anything with Mariah, a choir, and an uptempo beat is iconic. Reminds me of the “My All” version when it picks up at the end. Love me some MC! 🦋

Oh and this remix as well as the ones Mariah did with David Morales made her the remix queen, I title I would argue she still holds because she elevated remixes to more than just an afterthought by going in and re-recording vocals and creating new melodies.

I recommend checking out Mariah performing her song “Vanishing” in a rehearsal for SNL in 1990. Mariah’s only about 20 in that performance, right at the beginning of her career, and it’s just her voice, a piano and some backing vocalists. It’s so raw and soulful and, in my opinion, one of the greatest vocal performances I’ve ever heard by anyone.

Very typical of audiences in Japan to quietly take in the performance and not dance around. The outro is indeed a remix of the song.

Yes Mariah has always been my fav female artist. She has 19 number one billboard singles, unfortunately this single didn't make the cut but it should have. She is gospel inspired along with hip hop & she has other gospel influenced songs. Fly like a bird is another favorite, the 2005 grammy performance of we belong together/fly like a bird is straight 🔥 The choir was amazing which also led to a standing ovation at the end of the performance. Make it happen is pure nostalgia from her second album

I feel the same: how can such a big sound come out of such a small person? ‘ well, it wasn’t until i had the pleasure to meet MC at a launch party for Loverboy that she is 5’9 out of heels. With the heels she was at least taller than me and I am 5’11. She looked powerful and that she can punch your face out yet not cos of the way she moves and speaks. She was phenomenally friendly. Incredible voice…seen her live 3 times.

You HAVEEE to react to more music from her, idk how much songs yk abt Mariah but since u liked this so much u NEED to watch her “Make it Happen” live at Madison Square Garden 1995 performance which is VERY similar to this one. Not only are both her Madison Square Garden 1995 and Tokyo Dome 1996 arguably considered her 2 BEST concerts of all time, but the both “make it happen” and this song are VERY similar in the fact that they’re both uplifting and straight up Gospel songs relating to God. So u NEED to check out that performance.❤

Mariah is KNOWN for her REMIXES. She's the first major pop singer to remix her songs with whole new vocals and sometimes even rewrote lyrics for her remixes. Mariah started doing major remixes and I do mean multiple remixes for her hit songs since Emotions. She gave you a snippet of the AYNAF remix here. She has a variety of this one that range from 5 minutes and the longest all the way up to 10 minutes. Some of her mixes are based off house music so they tend to be long.
