She is such a real person and remained true to herself no matter how successful she became. I really admire that in her. Not a lot of celebrities have that quality. Beautiful speech!

She created music trends, blending pop and rap which still lingers to this day and has become a blueprint of chart music. She inspired millions with her runs and rifts which have influenced everyone from Beyonce to Ariana. She has written more #1 songs that any female singer songwriter in music history and after nearly 30 years in the game she released one of her best produced albums of her career. Is her voice the same as her prime? No! Yet her musicianahip shines through inspite of that. Many when at their best can do justice to their talent, when Mariah is at her best she is one the best. The amount of reference to her song in that one speech shows how much of a legend she is all top the billboard charts before.

I can honestly cry watching this. Like so many people do not know what this woman has been through just to be the icon that she is. People thought after her Breakdown in 2001 that Mariah Carey was over. People thought that she had hit rock bottom and there was no place else for her to go. However, in 2005 The Emancipation of Mimi put the queen back on her throne and showed people that she was stronger than anyone thought she was. She received 2 #1’s from that album and then came back in 2008 and got another #1 with Touch My Body, making her the solo artist with the most number one hits. To add, she wrote 17 of those 18 songs, one was a cover. Let’s give this queen her roses while she’s still with us. We did not do that with Whitney.

I can tell that speech came from the HEART, and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

She always gives the best speeches ever. From composing songs to speeches, she should release her own dictionary.

Many years ago I would not have liked it because Madonna is my Queen of Pop and Icon! It was so silly, the “feud”, rivalry bla bla! Now I can truly say Mariah deserves this award, because she’s such an amazing artist! It’s time to really appreciate her! We lost so many of the GREATS! There will only ever be one Mariah! I’m happy for her! And I can’t stop listening to “All I want for Christmas is you” right now!

Agree, and I loved that Mariah ("I am not Cinderella... Forget the drama, forget the ensembles, forget the...") - Now I would rate that speech as the second best. This one is even better (in 1999 she was also transitioning as a person) - as a more mature and heartfelt speech. As I posted, a speech of a lifetime with all the real struggles and ups and downs during these years... Mariah should also be proud of her legacy: There is at least two generations of artists that she has inspired: JHud, Kelly Clarkson, Ella Mai, Swift, Grande... to name the few that were there last night.

Mariah's music saved me countless times, she is our friend, mentor, our musical Goddess. I Thank for her every day. Now, as I am finishing a longterm therapy I understand better the magnitude of her influence on my life through her words cant express beautiful voice and the wisdom and intimacy of her lyrics. She truly is worthy of praise and admiration. Lets support her on her journey now and in the future as a true artist needs to be supported.

THIS is how you do an acceptance speech . . . funny, warm, thoughtful, approachable, and sincere. When Mariah said her fans saved her life, that did me in. What a moment. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Mariah may be a living legend and a world-class diva, but she’s also one of the sweetest, kindest, and realest people in the business. She deserves every bit of love we have for her. 🦋❤️

Mariah is truly one of the most down to earth artists out there. I love how she makes jokes through her speeches and yet, still manages to give a heartfelt and meaningful one! I stan you Mariah. Thank you for the gift of music and saving millions of lives through your stories.

It’s crazy how she has achieved more than every single artist in that room. No one will ever achieve what she has. She owns the Billboard Charts. History has been made with this one beautiful, gifted and chosen woman. Her speech actually brought tears to my eyes simply because of how much she has influenced everybody, & changed music forever. You could feel the love in that room & Taylor Swift showed what we all were feeling, joy in witnessing her mastery of music. The speech was real & came from her heart. God knows I love this woman. She truly is the QUEEN OF MUSIC. BEST FEMALE RECORDING ARTIST EVER. PERIOD.

My first crush ever was Mariah Carey. I watched all her music videos on TRL hosted by Bill Bellamy and Carson Daly throughout the 1990s. She had such gorgeous curly, brown hair, and she stole my heart with her smoky, buttery, smooth voice with an incredible range. My favorite video was Dreamlover. She’s one of my all time favorites! She’s had so much longevity in the music industry, she truly is an ICON.

She should’ve been nominated for a Grammy just for this acceptance speech, so clever honest and funny
