The lyrics are about how people can feel abandoned by the way society works, rather than the Church being abandoned, but the title came from a haunting picture in the film, where a Church had fallen into disrepair due to the poverty of the community and it was left empty.

I also 💕 this song by Maria - both her voice and the lyrics! I agree with ur 👍 remarks about ‘abandoning our churches ⛪️, but not our faith ✝️’. Personally, I didn’t really give it much thought when a lot younger, but I’m 70ish now, and many years ago came to realize that God doesn’t only ‘live’ in a church, or other house of worship, but that’s He’s everywhere, 24/7, with each and every one of us who believe in His existence. It matters NOT what religion someone is, or which god they believe in - that’s a personal and cultural belief.

Hi David, thanks so much for your lovely comment, we always look forward to you calling by on your travels 😊 Although this song was inspired by another documentary on a poverty stricken area, the lyrics are about people feeling abandoned by the way society works, rather than the Church being abandoned, but the title came from a haunting picture in the film, where the upkeep of the Church building had fallen into disrepair due to the poverty of the community and it was left empty, it was a compelling subject and I started writing straight away, thanks for always being here and for your great support xx
