"Maria Cervantes" is a composition by the Puerto Rican pianist and bandleader Noro Morales. The song was made famous by the legendary Tito Puente on the vibraphone.
In case you were wondering, Maria Cervantes was a real person - she was a well known pianist in Havana who passed in 1981.
I used to play lots of Afro-Cuban music when I lived in NYC and I've been wanting to record this one for awhile. I hope you enjoy it!

I've been playing that tune on the vibes since 1970s. I'm 68 now. Maybe when I grow up I'll be able to do the solo as good as you. 😂 Appreciate you sir. Thanks for sharing Tim.

IL Proferore, That was excellent. I like the timbal solo. A little weak on the bongos. When I played it, I would finish the coda in 6/8 for a change. Otherwise excellente, mi amigo.

My favorite version is the one by Tito Puente, but there is no vibe solo. You kicked butt on that.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🏄♂️

The part on the 16th bar with the 2 notes always killed me. I used play that one note at a time.🥹

I basically just used the lead sheet from the Latin real book, but some chords are different from the recording, so I followed the recording from Tito.
