Margarita Cocktail: How to make a great classic Margarita Cocktail by Paul Martin
The Margarita cocktail is a true classic cocktail. A combination of inspired simplicity and complexity. With countless stories and anecdotes relating to it's origin, it is generally accepted that it was invented in 1938 by Carlos 'Danny' Herrera at his restaurant La Gloria near Tijuana in Mexico.
A combination of tequila, triple sec and fresh lime juice, the margarita can be served straight-up, on the rocks or or 'frozen'. Additionally, the popularity of the margarita cocktail has spawned a multitude of fruit flavoured variation, where fruit of different types can be added to the standard mix and blended to create the desired fruit version.
In this video I share the technique for producing a classic, straight up Margarita in a salt rimmed glass. Once you have mastered this, you can move on to producing any of the common variations that you desire.
To make this cocktail you will need:
Tequila (usually blanco)
Triple Sec (often Cointreau)
Fresh Limes
Ice
Cocktail Shaker (Boston or 3-Piece)
Strainer
Fine strainer (if you have a real issue with tiny ice chips!!)
