Matt Chase listen to a song called TANK by the Seatbelts, this is dope and they play like life depends on it!! very passionate song

The riff in itself isn't that complicated. What blows my mind about Miller's bass playing is the way he can hold something that simple and make it groove THAT much and for THAT long. His endurance is so god damn impressive and how his groove is constantly rock solid for the whole damn song. Mind=Funked

The Marcus Miller and Drummer brain is conected. They're speaking the same language. Very impressive!!!

I love how the alto sax player makes his instrument sing, scream and sound so liquid. And Marcus, well, not much that hasn't been said about this kind of bass brilliance and mastery. Like, WOW.

This is why I play Bass. Love it..

Everytime, i'm bored of practicing, i'm looking this video, and directly pick up the bass again. Pure Inspiration

Right. All musicality aside, it takes years to develop this level of endurance. Most people who can do this at all can do it for about 30 seconds before cramping up. This is pure athleticism.

So clean, you can hear every note that Marcus is playing. Amazing.

For all you people will the negative comments, how many concerts have you been booked for? How many CD's have you sold? Do you have a band? The bass guitar is the highlight here. How can you over look the energy Marcus is playing with? This band's talent is amazing. Don't hate. Sounds like jealousy to me.

This guy is the world champion of slap bass,straight up.

It was 1981 when I heard Marcus playing for the first time at the Montreux Jazz Festival CH. He was playing with Michael Brecker, David Sanborn and Mike Manieri for 3 hours. Who wondered when he play such things today.

Im a metal head and will always love metal... But this...... This right here is amazing.... \m/

maverick7376 Well, considering I'm 18, i don't have many friends older than 20. But I mean, these big name bands. Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Meshuggah, Suffocation. These are all bands whose members are well over the age of 30 and 40 and still continue to make metal music. Maybe metal wasn't your thing, and maybe in the near future i'll grow out of it too, but I'm just saying that your sweeping generalization isn't necessarily correct.

Another I would add is that some people just aren't ready for genius. Mr. Miller is clearly so, so full of music creating songs within songs. Organist/keyboardist, Great! But he was not as ready for Mr. Miller, who clearly, to my ears (as a musician listening) was rather directing the flow. Phenom, Mr. Miller. You know it. Mr. Miller takes things much further than just the song idea. He will bring it higher, further. You have to HEAR where he is going, what he's doing and not stay on your own planet if when playing with Marcus Miller. Go where he goes, and the music further flows. Trust!

A tremendously hard bass part to play in fingerstyle and Marcus is slappin the hell out of it.

True music and true art. Marcus, you are a true musician and deserve to be commended.

He's double thumbing and muting a bit. It's like playing with a pick almost and then you have the other fingers to add more notes with.

Agree 100% it's not about the media or the latest trend, because these days they don't care about the LOVE and HEART put into music these days. Just the money and popularity. Talent and musicality is lost with the new crowd. Nobody can think for themselves anymore.

There is funk bass and then there is Marcus Miller. There's many outstanding bassists out there but Mr. Miller, in my humble opinion, is funkier than Larry Graham, Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Verdine White, and anyone else I can think of. DAMN! This is HOT!

What is Hip, is from the funk Jazz Group Tower of Power. Jeff Berlin was that bands Bass player back in the day. Jazz funk was big back in the early and mid 70's

The hardest hitting song by Mr. Miller I have ever heard. Can't get enough of this. played it maybe 40 times over the years. STILL my favorite.

This song is called "what is hip" by Tower of power. If you love a solid funk out and have not heard of them, check it out. Great band and the the bass player does some fine work on the origianl version too.

Marcus, Notes percolating notes like coffee when the flame is on high and never missing a beat. That is precision bass playing at it's best.

"What Is Hip" It's on Marcus' Latest album, but was originally recorded and written by The old San Francisco (I think) Band TOWER OF POWER back in the early 70's. The song is call "What is Hip?" This band had one of the hottest Horn sections on the planet.

R. Allan Curtis A bit late responding but... TOWER OF POWER is. STILL TOURING !! Over 40 years now and they still love it. Replaced a few players of course but they are still tight as ever.

Yup. This is in his 2007 album, Free. One of my favorite.
