It is true that people were inspired during the 2022 elections. I was one of the 15M who voted for VP Leni, and I vow to always vote based on principles and platforms. However, at this point in our history, is purism more important than bringing in more true opposition candidates back into the Senate? While I applaud Senator Risa for being a staunch advocate of the Filipino's rights, she only has another 3 years to carry on the job. We need more people like her in the Senate before she leaves. Right now, we have idiotic neophytes, spineless Duterte apostles, some of whom are running in the mid-terms, backed by Duterte money. Are we not being too idealistic?

The moment you start to lower your expectations for candidates is the moment your opinions will begin to matter little to them. If we continue to just vote for them because they're not the other guy then the principles and issues we hold dear will begin to have little weight on their mind because they already don't need to lift a finger to try to actually get our support.We've seen this in countries like America and Europe where often the main opposition and the ruling government have little difference from each other and they only campaign with the "I'm not the other guy" slogan.
