I worked at Mixmag at the time and I think the idea was inspired by Ferry Corsten's Punk - there seemed to be a few trance producers moving away from the classic trance sound and introducing electro elements. And so we got the name. In hindsight, this seems like a pretty full on trance mix and not sure the electro is really there. Oh well. I might not be the best person to talk about electro as I remember having a very heated debate in the office where I said we should re-name the 'electroclash' genre 'synthwave'. I still think it's a better name, but no one else did. Still this ia monster CD whatever it was called. So glad we put out Marco V.

Ferry had a distinctive sound back then, Punk and Rock your body Rock (and then the not so good LEF). Electro house was popping off in London. NastyDirtySexMusic @ MoS is still hands down one of the best club nights I've been too. Ministry signed Fischerspooner, Miss Kitten did the Electroclash CD for Muzik so it was definitely a buzz word for the time. Marco V had a similar dirty, electro, driving trance sound to Ferry imo but for me at least, it sounded less commercial. This CD is massively underrated. His second CD for mixmag a year later is equally as good.

@@CoverCDs yup, NastyDirtySexMusic was run by the excellent and amazing Tim Sheridan - an amazing DJ and lovely bloke. The most suprising thing about electro is MoS spending £1M on Fischerspooner (as I remember).... crazy. I know in Shoreditch, Ladytron and The Rapture were the future, but house and trance are always were the crowds are (Or EDM and techno now).

They did and flopped. I was always a big fan of Fischerspooner, but I think they came about too early or maybe they were too experimental at first and people didnt get it. Their second album Odyssey was excellent. Tim and Jo were a great combo, shame it didnt last. When he moved to Turnmills it lost something that MoS had. Ah memories!

Back when it was difficult to bring quality tunes back home after the club, mixmag gave us CDs that hit the spot. There's lots of them. Thanks for putting this one up 😊😃😜🤪😝🧐🤨🥺🤯

If you enjoyed this he did a Crasher Live set (CD2 - Scott bond is CD1) that you might like. He also did another Mixmag CD a few years later: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hKxlytyfnbLOXZM.html
