When I first started marching band in high school, I wasn’t good at it. I couldn’t read coordinates, I couldn’t understand the mechanics of marching or even mark time in time with the music. I was completely clueless. And my playing wasn’t any better. I remember in middle school my director didn’t allow me to audition for Region because i wasn’t good enough. My freshman year I wasn’t good enough to have a marching spot.I wasn’t even a shadow/alternate. I was kind of just at rehearsals. I got teased by some other peers and I remember going to the counselors office trying to get a schedule change. But I couldn’t since I needed one year of an elective and 1 PE credit. Because of those credit requirements I stayed in marching band. I practiced and practiced and after so much trouble today I’m going into my 4th year of drum corp

I’m an incoming sophomore and I’ve auditioned and got a spot in the quads and me switching from bass 2 to quads was incredible to me. I’m 6’1” 140lbs and I can withstand the weight for the time of a marching show but I’m not ready to hold it for longer than a show and i know that forte athletics is going to help me withstand the weight a lot more.

Love this! I'm glad you didn't quit. And marching band IS tough. There was never a moment I wanted to quit...It was something I wanted to be a part of since I was around 4 years old (grew up a few blocks from our high school where we could hear the band every summer and fall) but there were days that were so hard and I was exhausted (band camp in AUGUST???). But you're right that there are so many lessons there and so much to learn. Those years in marching band are still some of the best years of my life.

Nice job for sticking in marching band dude. I am a freshman in Highschool and I literally just finished my season a day before this comment was posted and I played Xylophone for front ensemble. next year i am hoping to to drumline. and i feel you dude, those quads are heavy asf. Whoever marches quads i feel bad for them after marching season, their back is gone.

Thank you! Wishing you all the best with your drumline audition! Carrying quads is easier with a simple core training regiment!

I’m 5’7” at 130 lbs and I’ve been selected to play quads for my schools indoor line. I’ve worked very hard, but going from bass 1 to quads has been my biggest challenge yet. I’m excited to see what the future holds and how my marching and body improves in response to carrying such a heavy drum!!

Huge congrats to you! Confident marching with quads on requires the discipline to train lower body & core. Have you started training?

So happy you pursued your passion and persevered! Now one question: why did you stop creating jump rope content? It was sooo good!

Aww thank you! In short, jump rope content wasn’t providing as much value to the marching band community I was aiming to serve.

Wasn't really marching band it was my second winter percussion season and I was thinking I gotta alot better than last season I practices really hard for my spot on bass and my spot was just completely taken with someone with natural talent and I thought to myself "it's always going to be like this someone will just come and take my spot" I just thought it was hopeless and I decided to thug it out for the rest of the season still didn't feel accomplished but during that summer I took one of your classes on forte's site and said not this year And I came into the marching band season better than everybody else on the line now I'm starting the winter season and I have a pretty good start (thanks man all cuz of you frfr)
