Мой Отец был одним из миномётчиков с 1942 по 1947 гг, в честь которых звучит этот марш...ЗдОрово!!!!

I can here a bit of the Russian folk song Katyusha in there and thats one of my favorite Russian songs. Irony (intentional or not) since the Soviets did build the BM-13 Katyusha rocket truck.

The Cat With a Top Hat It's not irony. The "Guard Mortar" units are code names for Katyusha-armed artillery units in order to maintain secrecy.

One of best Soviet marches.

What a great march and what a fine recording of it! But I miss the videos. Seeing the band or the marching band play the tunes is so more exciting. But this is truly great music. Thanks! Bob M Houston TX

А еще интереснее, кадры кинохроники Парада Победы 24июня 1945г. Когда по Красной Площади едут Катюши на студебекерах. Россия и Америка были тогда союзниками. Спасибо!

Служил в ортестре 75,77 г Как услышу духовой . Слеза наворачиваются .

@Haritonov46 The second reason is that Russian march composers seem to prefer the minor key and a heavier use of bass instruments than we prefer -- giving them a distinct sound and feel. In turn this gives rise to left over bad days from the Cold War -- which while now over -- still has lingering effects. But Russian CLASSICAL music is WIDELY LOVED. Tchaikovsky is adored -- and the 1812 overture is played annually in almost every major city in the country on our own national day of 4 July!

@Haritonov46 Hi Mr. Haritonov In my opinion there are two reasons marches by Tchernetsky and other great Russian march composers are not known in the US. First, marches are NOT popular here. We do not have any national military parades and so few people ever hear them. I like them a lot because my father was an army sergeant for 20 years and I was raised on an army post. Полагаю, это второй по музыкальности и популярности (после "Марша танкистов") марш С.А.Чернецкого. Без труда улавливается, что в основе лежит музыкальная вариация известной "Катюши" Блантера, мастерски переработанная и озвученная. Полагаю, что сейчас даже последние невежды знают, что "Катюшами" назывались реактивные гвардейские минометы, бойцам которых и посвящено это произведение, может быть, и не самым налучшим образом исполненное.

@Haritonov46 Hi Mr Haritonov -- I respectfully disagree with you in this matter. There are great marches from may places in the world, includng both the USA and the CIS. I do not believe the reason that CIS marches are not played here is because they would make American marches look not so great. I think it is because there is a different taste in music here. @rmorecook It is really nice that you got interested in fantastic soviet marching music. Sadly it is practically unknown in USA. There are some reasons for it. Besides the obvious one (political) there is a purely cultural reason. The people, who could have been spred this music (musicians and publishers) understand very well that it can make american marching music (including Sousa) looks not so greate. (to be continued)

@rmorecook Dear Mr. Morecook. Naturally, my oppinion about US marches is quite bias but being a professional musician I am, to a good extend, capable to overcom my biasness. I've done a lot of civilian parades in NY (beside listening the records) so I know US marches very well. I like about 10 best Sousa's marches (the most played ones) and about 10 more marches and well arranged marching songs (National Emblem, Colonel Bogey etc.) (to be continued)

@rmorecook Dear rmorecook. I am glad you enjoyed the march, but I have some questions for you. Have you just discover Tchernetsky's marches, or you knew them before? If you've known them why, in your opinion, such greate marches are virtually unknown in USA?

@rmorecook By the way, there are (in my opinion) at least 20 really greate russian marches of pre-soviet (pre-revolutionary) period

лучшее, это когда все плохо сыгранные. дворовые оркестры, допустим, а орк ленво или мин обороны сыграли=то это лучший.НО когда и тот и другой и третий профи сыграли идеально, то лучшего быть не может.Это уже дело вкуса, у каждого свои пристрастия.

@rmorecook The rest of countless US and GB marches are just garbage (sorry, but this is my professional oppinion). Why are the garbage? Because they consist of very poor musical material (ie tunes, melodies). There is nothing more important in a march (as well as in any kind of music) than a bright tune and a melodious counterpart. By the way, in contrast to russian marches, euphonium counterpart as a phenomenon is practically absent in US and GB marches. (to be continued)
