March 2020: Dr. Anthony Fauci talks with Dr Jon LaPook about Covid-19

In March, Fauci told 60 Minutes that masks should largely be reserved for healthcare providers. In April, the recommendations were broadened to include simple masks for the general public.

I don't know... he starts out saying the masks are important to prevent the outward spread of the virus. Right now scientists are saying the exact same thing, that the main usefulness of the mask is in preventing outward spread from an infected person. Remembering that this was early March, when very few people had the virus in the USA, it would have been foolish to burn up our limited mask supply by having every uninfected person walking around with a mask on. As a doctor, he is trying to "do no harm."

He downplayed the efficiency of mask wearing at that particular time, but he never said they were useless. He clearly said masks prevent an infected person from infecting others. And he said the important point was to save masks for healthcare workers. Why would we save masks for healthcare workers, if they were useless? @@Derek-nm3lu I have not seen Dr. Fauci flip-flop. He starts out here saying that masks are important in stopping outward spread of the virus from an infected person. That is still currently the main reason given for wearing masks, but now applicable to us all since the virus is now much more widespread and we have learned new information about asymptomatic and presymptomatic spread. Our knowledge of this new and unique virus has increased in the last 4 months. Our situation has changed, as the virus became more widespread, and as the mask supply has improved somewhat. Dr. Fauci's emphasis may have changed a bit (he was trying to conserve masks then, as we all know) but his core statements have been fairly consistent, given the evolving nature of the science.

How freaking insane. Dumber than dirt. And do you need a link to the video of Dr Fauci telling us wearing masks might stop some droplets from someone who coughed or sneezed, but it really just gives people a "FALSE" sense of security. There is zero proof that masks do anything to slow or stop the virus. If you feel comfortable then wear them. But don't get mad at the rest of us for not going along with the gig.

@@anonymousandy2139 One of the big issues we have created in the United States is that we have politicized this virus. We should be looking at it from the perspective of science, period. As you probably know, viruses behave differently and some are more contagious than others. In fact, some are not contagious at all. The culprit that is responsible for the current pandemic is the novel coronavirus. "Novel" meaning it had not been previously identified. Medical experts are learning more about the virus every day but back on March 8 when Dr. Fauci appeared on 60 Minutes very little was known about it. Do I think he underestimated the virus? Absolutely. Do I think he lied? No. The last 25 seconds of the video convinces me that he was just as much in the dark as everyone else at the time. A little over a minute into the video, Fauci remarks. "When you look at films from foreign countries and you see 85% of the people wearing masks, that's fine. I'm not against it. If you want to do it, that's fine." Dr. Jon LaPook responds by saying, "But it can lead to a shortage of masks." Fauci then says, "Exactly. The hysteria was renewed when the economy started reopening. There's one article on bizinsider. com from June 7 where he says the rioting across the country is the perfect storm for a second wave of this national pandemic. He said it that one time being honest, then the DNC probably told him he can't blame it on all these "peaceful protester" gangs of thieves and thugs not wearing masks, gathering by the thousands and travelling city to city to cause destruction. Of course, what I mean is that people shouldn't be jumping OR turning - in ANY direction. People need to sit down, and stop jumping, to slow the spread. Democratic agenda to have Joe Biden win have Bill Gates who donates to his cause then have him pass a bill to force his mandatory vaccine 💉 with the threat of imprisonment . Then relinquish the presidency to Nancy his Vice President in a few months after it all goes down . All the liberals voting Democrat that hate taking flu shots are going to love the mandatory shot Bill Gates has made for them . They don’t even realize he’s Democrat and also a criminal in Africa from testing vaccines on African women and children . Where is the black and woman’s rites in that . Dr . Fauci is his rite hand man and can’t even keep a straight face when asked about the masks . kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJqMqJNvetOTesY.html He says he has no evidence of the virus being spread in crowds but he’s the one who advocated for churches to be closed and businesses to be shut down to reduce the spread . THEN he turns around and says that he cannot confirm that rioting on the other hand causes the spread of the virus even though it’s giant crowds of people yelling in close proximity to each other . So you can’t go to church and if you open your business you get arrested but if your outside of those places in huge groups with no mask he cannot say wether or not it’s bad enough to catch the virus .
