These are gorgeous! I only have the Davis one in the Penguin series. Can’t wait to see what you think of the different translations.

What beautiful books you've found! I have never read Proust but you have made me curious to try. Amazon shows many different editions of Swann's Way, including a graphic novel offering. The illustrations in it look wonderful, but I wonder if one would miss the "meat" of Proust's work by reading it in that format.

I thought I replied to this already but KZread isn't showing it, so I'll take another shot. I have seen that graphic novel but haven't examined it carefully. I suspect you are right. You'd miss out on Proust's inimitable style. Thanks for the comment!

Bought deluxe edition retail at Barnes and Noble. Half way through Sodom and Gomorrah, slogging two damn pages per day.

I made it through the first volume and dipped my toe in the second and burned out. I'll make it back someday. I love your paint color and the art in this corner. Please tell me you have a cat in there too, lol.

Beautiful books and a wonderful haul! I'm glad you were able to complete the set. I'm afraid I can't add anything to the conversation about Proust as I have tried and failed in my reading of him. Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime? But that's a great story about the little clip that you saw all those years ago and that you remembered it when you actually got to the end of the book. Great stuff!

Thanks for the reply, Pat! Yes, Proust is not to everyone's taste, admittedly. Have you tried this new translation? Maybe it's easier going.

I haven’t tried since shortly after graduate school, and I’m not sure which translation I had. But you certainly have piqued my interest.

The translation in this video of Swann’s Way is just fantastic. Lydia Davis won an award for it - I really wish that she had translated the other books. I didn’t like Proust until I read the Davis translation

Lindos livros, professor. Que bom ver alguem falar com tanto entusiamos de Proust. Sou um brasileiro proustiano desde os 30, quando " descobri" Proust. Tenho 61 e já li a serie toda 5 vezes, sempre com maior prazer e com descobertas. Estou na sexta leitura, no Caminho de Guermantes, e espero terminar a serie até dezembro. Saudacões proustianas e um forte abraço, professor.

Cheers and thank you, Sergio. Wow, 5 times through Proust already...that must be a world record! Do you have a favorite volume? Also, do you read Proust in Portuguese translation or French?

I keep going in search of great philosophy. It's tough being a girl reader trapped in his seeming endless young girl crazy stuff. Presuming it's a guy thing that I'll never get, I persist.
