Queen never did the operatic section live. So seeing him do it with just a voice and piano is impressive not to mention the rapid breaths he has to take between the lyrics in order to maintain rhythm. He did a fantastic job for what he had to work with.

queen had their strong attitude to that. they‘ve said there would be no point in doing that little section live because they‘ve already done it with layering of their voices in the studio and found it perfect as it was on records like a choir. they wanted it like a choir with many, many voices and not with a single voice.

@@greenogre22 oh no doubt I’m just saying it’s difficult to do that section with no backing vocals that’s why it was so impressive

Marc, and his original band Downhere, were signed by Word Records in 1999. They later became the launch band for the then brand new label "Centricity." They had 14 albums if you include all their studio albums, Christmas albums, live albums and their "best of." They won many awards, expecially Canadian "grammy" awards, since they were from Canada. They have not toured together or done any albums since 2011. Roger Taylor hired him to lead his official tribute band, Queen Extravaganza, at that time. He put out a fantastic solo album in 2014, Impersonator. And later helped Queen by doing vocal for parts in the movie where Freddie's singing voice was needed.

marc is a true gem! he definitely coulda taken it there, as others have already mentioned; his falsetto & breath support is superb actually. his one take with his queen cover band (the uqc) of "under pressure" is so scarily good it's not even funny...it's also on his official channel, & i'd highly recommend it. marc's own music is actually very good as well, & finally, his covers of artists other than queen impress me as well, esp his renditions of "i will always love you", "unchained melody", & "karma police". :)

I agree. The Under Pressure cover is the best cover I’ve ever heard of any song. It’s even better - forgive me - than the original.

Fun fact: Marc provided a lot of the vocals for the movie Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) mixed with Freddie’s and vocals from the lead actor, Rami Malek. He has a band which does a lot of Queen music, he has an album of Queen covers and has toured around the world. And he is French Canadian!

He could have taken it there. He often does. But he stayed on the melody note instead of Roger Taylor's high harmony note. He had already hit Roger's "Galileo" note earlier in the song.

Marc has a KZread channel, and this isn't his only cover. There are even a few covers with UQC (the successor to the Queen Extravaganza). There's a channel posting concert highlights as well, though TBH I don't know if they're affiliated. UQC is acoustically very close to Queen in Freddie's days, but they do put their own twist on it-- Marc does the classic call-response with the audience in "Another One Bites the Dust", and he does a touch of Michael Jackson in their rendition of "Radio Ga Ga".

Maybe other question... "Did Freddie know he have a son"? Very fast investigation. Super funny, but everything is true... Near nine months before Marc was born (16.11.1976 in Montreal), Queen had a few concerts in USA. You are sitting now? For example... 2 hours from Montreal travelling by car concert in Waterbury or concert 6 hours from New York, and others, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit... Check it🤗

He is very talented-just not into artists who “imitate”. I prefer artists who have a fresh take when they cover someone else’s music. No disrespect, i think he is an amazing vocalist & very talented . Would love to hear more of him other than Queen/Freddie Mercury.

Marc owns 4 Juno Awards (Canadian Grammys) with his original band Downhere from the early 2000s, all for songs he wrote. And even after transitioning to Queen after Roger Taylor and Brian May picked him to lead Queen Extravaganza in 2012, he still found time to put out the great album Impersonator (intentionally ironic title) in 2014. Here are two songs with contrasting styles from that album: Paradise kzread.info/dash/bejne/hXh2zdOzdaqzeZs.html Stalemate kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6GExNmFldXMdbw.html

Deb, Marc doesn't "imitate." That's his natural singing voice. The only thing he does, if he wants to sound more like Freddie, is add a bit of a British accent, to match Freddie's.
