Marc Marquez Wins Again After 581 Days | MotoGP Germany
MotoGP™ is on notice that Marc Márquez is back as the Sachsenring king returns to the top step of the podium for the first time since 2019.
After three complex arm surgeries following his crash at the season-opening 2020 Spanish MotoGP™, Márquez has suffered a long and painful journey back to fitness. But in one of the most impressive sporting comebacks in recent memory, the six-time premier class champion absolutely bossed the German MotoGP™ for an emotional first win since the end of the 2019 season.
It's been 518 days since Márquez last tasted MotoGP™ victory, but he looked every inch his old self as he resisted pressure from one of this year's breakout stars, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Miguel Oliveira. The Portuguese rider looked to reel in Márquez, but couldn't do enough to break the Honda rider's advantage. The winner of the previous race in Catalunya can be satisfied with another visit to the podium, however.
The result means that Márquez becomes the fifth different winner of a GP this year and also that the Honda rider has triumphed every time he's raced at the Sachsenring. That equates to 11 wins in all classes, eight in the premier, at the storied German circuit. More importantly for Márquez, though, it's a just reward for many months of pain and uncertainty.
In qualifying, Pramac Ducati's Johann Zarco claimed a commanding pole position, but on race day the French rider was already down in third by the time the pack exited the opening sequence of tight corners, as Aprilia's Aleix Espargaró snatched the lead, followed by a resurgent Márquez.
By the beginning of lap two, the MotoGP™ world was once again witnessing a sight that's been familiar for the last decade - the Honda of Márquez leading a premier class motorcycle race. Behind, the Ducati's of Zarco and Jack Miller battled it out for the final podium place.
A few 10ths back from the top three, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing were hunting in a pack, with Catalunya race winner Oliveira leading team-mate Brad Binder towards the sharp end. Oliveira soon passed championship leader Fabio Quartararo on lap five to take over fifth, while Binder’s progress was particularly notable, as he surged from 13th to within sight of the leaders in just a handful of laps.
At the beginning of lap eight, Miller made his move on Zarco to grab third place and half a lap later Miller was right with second place man Espargaró, just as the widely expected rain finally began to fall lightly. The Australian seized the moment and took over second from the Aprilia rider.
Sensing his opportunity as rain threatened, by lap 10 Márquez had pulled out a 1.5-second lead, as Miller came under heavy pressure from Oliveira. One lap later Márquez had added another couple of tenths to his advantage and Oliveira rode past Miller into second place.
On lap 15, the halfway point of the race, the gap between leader Márquez and Oliveira was tantalisingly poised around two seconds, with both men showing scintillating speed and putting in fastest laps. With 11 laps remaining the gap suddenly dropped by half a second, as Oliveira put the hammer down. All eyes were on the gap and with eight laps left to run it was down to just over one second, Oliveira producing great pace out of the final corner to keep the heat on Márquez.
The big question was could the still recovering Márquez maintain his concentration and fitness to hold on at this incredibly physical circuit?
The answer was yes. At the end of lap 30, Márquez claimed his 57th premier class win amid emotional celebrations in the Repsol Honda garage, leading home the impressive Oliveira, with Quartararo taking third to maintain his lead in the championship standings.
Away from Márquez’s remarkable return, Oliveira maintained his and KTM's fantastic run, following up from victory last time in Catalunya to score a third consecutive podium. His team-mate Binder kept up his good form with a fourth place finish, while the factory Ducati of Francesco Bagnaia took fifth ahead of championship hopeful Miller.
Fellow championship challenger and pole position winner Zarco ended up eighth and the French rider will look to get back on track at the next race, the Dutch TT, in just seven days to keep pace in the title fight.

Agostini won championships which were like 6 races long. So unfair to compare to modern seasons. Only Rossi records better but MM is the fastest rider. Pole positions say that. Only rider who can fight at all tracks.
Its so cool to hear marc talk about how he confided in mick doohan of all people for advice. One legend talking to another! One should never forget those who came before and its humbling to know that marc, as brilliant as he is, acknowledges that.

Fantastic win.. Well done young man..
It's something to see someone come back and realize the struggle inside. It changed him. No longer invincible or indestructible. That's a one way personal journey he has to make, and he's still not fully in control of anything that happens next.

The Master back in the saddle! Well Done Sir! Well done 💪🏻🏁💪🏻
Unbelievable absolutely exceptional talent the king of the ring 💪💪💪
He is the GOAT of MotoGP. In his whole career he NEVER EVER lost out to any teammate in any season. Even in Moto3 and Moto2. That is just mindblowing. Beating Dani Pedrosa in 2013 in his first ever MotoGP season and on top of that winning the title against the big stars of MotoGP at that time - the legend himself Valentino Rossi and of course Jorge Lorenzo. Then repeating it in absolute style in 2014, completely dominant in the first half, securing 10 victories in a row. 2015 as well, completely outperforming the Repsol Honda - unfortunately he went down too often so he was out of the title fight, even though when he finished he mostly secured great points, podiums and victories. 2016-2019 ist history. It is so sad to see that with the massive crash in 2020, and now the following injuries some higher forces have taken a really dip cut into his MotoGP career. In 2021 his comeback season under enormous pain, he still managed to beat Pol Espargaro in a straight fight and managed to win 3 races, which is absolutey incredible. For me Marc Marquez is more than a MotoGP Legend, he is an inspiration for us all - proving the haters and critics wrong all the time and making the impossible more often possible than once. This man deserves all the glory you can give him and for me he is at least on the same level like the all-time-greats of Giacomo Agostini, Valentino Rossi, Mick Doohan and so an - if not better. Without the crash Marc would have won the 2020 titel - no doubt, but of course those are the what if games… and yeah thats that. I really hope his vision will get better and he will be able to at least recover from all his injuries to be able to quite comfortably ride bike for a long time during the race without having to cope with the pain from the very beginning of the race. Fingers crossed for Marc Marquez. I still believe that he can win another Moto-GP title. Then having the same amount of Premier-Class-Titles as Valentino Rossi. (7) With only Giacomo Agostini having secured more Premier-Class-Titles (8)

Lots of ifs as you say. Rossi would have beaten Ago if he had stayed with Honda (or even Yamaha). And Marc would have killed himself in an era without as much technology and traction controls
What he did to Fabio on that start is exact reason why people don't like him. I, personally, do not respect that riding style. Find it way too aggressive or even dirty. Anyway, he is truly one of the greatness this sport has ever seen.
Legends never die
❤ from India 🇮🇳
The King of MotoGP
I broke my femur racing and wasn't sure if I'd be able to race again ... Even though I'm not at a level anywhere near his ... He helped inspire me to keep pushing ...I was an amateur and that following year I returned to the race track and became a pro ... Goal achieved... Marc is a great role model and I felt like even though he went through much more troubles we kinda had similar experiences..Marc is a beast and his passion in undeniable

Marc Marquez 🔥🔥🔥🏆🏆🏆
I heard an interview with Rossi who said that he likes to get the back of the bike out of control, to find where the limit is, & then about 3 weeks later i saw an interview with Marquez, who said that he likes to get the front & the back of the bike out of control, to find where the limit is, my thinking is that all of the riders ride on the limit, but the limit itself has a limit, & Marquez rides on the limit of the limit, if you understand me.
Marquez❤️👍✌️✌️✌️
