Marc Jacobs: Between Collections
Marc Jacobs is moving. After living and collecting in an impeccably designed townhouse on Greenwich Village’s Bethune street for over a decade, the fashion icon has found a new canvas in the Frank Lloyd-designed Max Hoffman House of Rye, New York. This November, Sotheby’s is honored to offer an exceptional selection of works from the Collection of Marc Jacobs in our Contemporary Art Evening and Day sales. As he prepares to relocate, the legendary designer joined Sotheby’s Chairman Amy Cappellazzo to explore his eclectic art collection and unique approach to curation. Jacobs has spent the past two decades building an extensive collection of contemporary art with a particular focus on figuration, including remarkable examples from artists like Mike Kelley, John Currin and Urs Fischer. Although initially intimidated with the New York art world, Jacobs developed personal relationships with many of the artists he collected, including Elizabeth Peyton and Karen Kilimnik. I am not really a Marc Jacobs Stan, but I think if anybody would be allowed to think highly of themselves, Marc Jacobs should be the one to do that given all he has accomplished!
I don't know what to think of all that...tasteful isn't a word that springs to mind. Each to his own.

NEGUS MBARKA LOL, right, that’s why gay men are the top designers, top artists, top makeup artists, top interior designers and top vision makers period. Everything to do with art and beauty is mostly run by gay men you fool. You’re an ignorant, provincial simpleton....... There’s a correlation between low intelligence and homophobia views. I find this collection utterly fascinating although i'm a bit (just a bit) stunned that there wasn't a little more excitement in the room about Alex Katz in mentioning "Dear Painter, paint me...". Oh well, these pieces make a beautiful puzzle for Jacobs. I give it nine hands with shiny polished fingernails in the air.
For centuries, art has fascinated people. The sensitivity of the audience resulted from being stimulated by cultural events, social changes, wars, etc. This is how new directions in art emerged. Today's world needs something else, and that's why Compmaturism. The works of the Compmaturists relate to today's human needs; they are emotional, devoid of routine and calculation. They are filled with art juice. That is why people loves COMPMATURISM

So many pretentious queens! O.k. he made some coin working for Louis Vuitton. It's like hearing the sales queens after their shift at Macy's Nordstrom etc. Then they take that conversation to the bar. It's like enough already. Stop being so consumed with the creativity of others and tell me about you! I found this to be superficial very out of touch. Sounds like someone wants to be the next lover of Yves Saint Laurent. Only going on about his art collection only to be left over to some lover in a trust fund. Ives Saint laurent worked his whole life only to die, only for his long life lover to leave it to a new found lover. At least Versace left his collection to actual blood relatives like his niece and nephew. I found this disturbing and irritating to watch as a gay man who happens to be down to earth and real about life. I can only imagine Marc Jacobs had to get a therapist because he is so vain and materialistic and narcissistic. But no one has the balls to tell it to him in his face. Wake up before you end up like another Halston Mr. Marc Jacobs. Stop being a fake and a phony. Fake Bull $hitter$!!!

I'm ROCKED by this! He has designed some exquisite clothing pieces but his home is bizarre in how unexpected it is, it's like something from a late 1980s interior design book. I agree with the other commenter here who mentioned the art on display throughout. I too find it all most unappealing. I mean, art's art and you like what you like, fine, but....really Mr Jacobs?! I'm genuinely disappointed and mildly confused. It's like a movie set for a Manhattan apartment in a 1980's Woody Allen film, where someone would throw a cocktail party for obnoxious douchebags who work in publishing.
