THE EXPERT TABLE TENNIS PODCAST - EPISODE #22
This is part two of my conversation with English table tennis coach Marc Burman. If you haven’t yet listened to part one you can check that out here:
kzread.info?o=U&vide...
Marc Burman was my first ever table tennis coach and coached me as a nine and ten-year-old back in 1998/99, at the local leisure centre. I count myself very lucky to have stumbled into his club as a beginner as he not only taught me the basics but also made it fun and got me to fall in love with the sport. He has also coached a number of England’s top juniors, including Emma Torkington.
Marc has almost 25 years of experience as a table tennis coach (we heard about how he first got involved with coaching as a sixteen-year-old in part one) and has loads of wisdom and advice for players that are keen to improve and develop. This part of the interview goes into the practical details of how and what to practice and how to develop a mindset and attitude that will lead you to table tennis greatness.
In this episode you’ll learn:
- Why you should focus on your performance, not your results.
- Why sometimes it is a good idea to play against your opponents strengths.
- What Marc learned from Jean-Philippe Gatien at the London Open.
- How to develop the habit of winning.
- Marc’s views on the importance of talent and personality.
- Six practical tips that will turbocharge your improvement.
- The difference between “good mistakes” and “bad successes”.
- How to deal with the pressure of being expected to win.
- The attitude that will help you to consistently beat lower ranked players.
Thanks for listening!
Thank you so much for joining us for part two of my interview with table tennis coach Marc Burman. I really hope you enjoyed listening to both of my episodes with Marc and I’m sure that you’ve got loads of useful tips and insights from him.
I would like to say a big thank you to Marc for joining me on the podcast and sharing some of his experience and wisdom with us regarding the kind of attitude we need to develop if we want to become truly great table tennis players.
Marc doesn’t have anything to promote - he came on the show purely because he loves talking about table tennis - but if you’re based in West Sussex, and are looking for a coach, I would highly recommend getting in touch with him via the Haywards Heath Table Tennis League.
Please share the show
We are currently half way through the month of October and we aren’t far off 3,000 downloads of the podcast. It would be amazing to reach 6,000+ downloads by the end of the month and I’m sure we can do it because I can see the downloads increasing week-by-week. To make that happen, though, I need your help…
Please, please, please (if you haven’t already) would you subscribe on iTunes and leave the show an honest iTunes Podcast review. Success on iTunes is key to the long-term popularity and success of the show.
I would also really appreciate it if you could continue sharing The Expert Table Tennis Podcast with your friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter using the links on this page. Every share puts the podcast in front of potential new listeners and fans.
