Not to mention, Snape very much bullied Harry every chance he got. Yeah, he ultimately protected him when it mattered, but he ruthlessly bullied a child because he looked too much like his dad and he blamed Harry for the reason why Lily didn’t survive. Snape wasn’t a good guy, I don’t think he was ever meant to be written as a good guy. He did ONE thing that was good, but that doesn’t erase his /years/ of tormenting Harry and Neville and Hermione and other kids he just decided to pick on, or how he felt entitled to Lily just because they were friends. He gives “I’m a nice guy, bitch” energy as a character.

No, James was a bully. I love him but you can't justify his actions. You need to accept that he was young and stupid, he was a bully but he grew from it, he was a bully but you also can't ignore his best parts. He saved Snape when Sirius pulled that trick on him, and that's where you know he has his head on straight. He's a bully but he is still good. I love James because it shows that human are not this one dimensional, black and white being. We can be good yet still capable of great evil, we can be evil but also capable in doing good. James is someone who shows Harry that not everything is black and white. Harry before, has this idealized vision of his father when the truth is his father is not an all light person. You can love a character but still acknowledged their flaws

There's a whole bit in the plot about how James and Draco are extremely similar people, while Harry and Snape mirror each other. However, as James and Snape got older, they were both changed through their interactions with Lily. The whole reason Lily wouldn't date James was because he was a bully, and that's why she always stood up for Snape. It's the same as saying Draco and Harry bullied eachother. Draco is a complex character, but he was a bully, and Harry only ever duelled him in self-defense.

It was one sided because Snape was ganged up on and he was defending himself. It is like saying if a murderer tries you murder you with knife and you use frying pan to hit him to defend yourself, then both are murderers! In fact, in OOTP, it was clear that James and Sirius were the one who just start to bully Snape just for existing and they even SAID that! And not to forget, Sirius, quite literally sent him to his death and he thought Snape deserved it just cuz he was snooping around. Yes Snape was horrible and an awful bully but that does not mean, James and Sirius were saint. They were bullies too and infact, they bullied just for because they can! Even Lily pointed that out!

Did we read the same books. James was going after Snape from the first day, not because he used a slur against lily. That too was 4 against one. Not to mention Snape used that slur in his lowest moment, after James just hung him upside down without provocation with his underpants to be seen by half of the school. He did apologize to her after that. I would love to see how you react if something like that happens to you.

But we obviously read different books because there was no day one meeting between james and snape, so you are either confusing fan fiction with canon. There was that one interaction and snapes hatred towards Harry, who is spitting image of James. But if that were to happen to me, I wouldn't call a person who saved me from that situation a slur but thanked them and called them a hero or something. Unlike you, if you agree with snape, I don't like calling people hateful things for any reason, let alone if i love them and they saved me from embarrassment no matter how much blood has gone to my head.

I know James was a bully, and that's not forgivable, but i personally think he's not the worst if you compare him to pettigrew or snape (who is glorified for some reason while he is actually a bad person, even if i love the character and the development, still not a friendly person). The difference between Snape and James is that James grew up and got over it, where as Snape didn’t, he went on to bully Harry his whole school years (literally making him HATE going to snapes classes) the only reason he went to Dumbledore and switched sides was because he was in love with lily (who btw had none of the same feelings and made that very clear after he called her slurs) and asked Voldemort to spare lily, he didn’t care and preferred for James and Harry to be killed just so he could have another shot with lily. What are you talking about? Where in the books does it suggest that Snape had Avery and Mulciber back him up? James wouldn’t attack Snape unless he was alone. So no, 4v1 or 2v1 is not a fair fight. Remus saw how Sirius and James would treat Snape, but never intervened. Even though he didn’t approve. As for Peter, he too just stood by and watched. Probably enjoyed it too. I’m not even trying to be funny, but honestly what Harry Potter series were you reading?Is it that ATYD fanfic? Because the books itself could not have made it any clearer that the Marauders were straight up bullies back in their day.

I think one of the main reason Snape and James hated each other was because of Lily, James hated snape bc he was a Slytherin and was clear friends with Lily, so he saw that as a threat to his affections with her. Same thing with Snape. He grew up in an abusive home so resented James who he thought was spoiled, arrogant, and thought himself better than others and reveled in the attention. Thats why he hated harry so much, he believed Harry loved the fame and attention he was getting, and mistakenly believed Harry was spoiled. Harry was sassy and cheeky to Snape because that was the only way he could get back at the Dursleys for their treatment of him. People with a bad childhood tend to be defensive, sarcastic, and sassy when faced with bullying or someone they dont like, I have met many people like that. Neither James or Snape were good people, plus this was during their teenage years, and im sure James regretted how he treated Snape, if only for Lily's sake. James DID change, only because Lily wouldn't have been with him if he stayed the way he was.

I think it was very heavily implied that James and Serius bullied Snape for being a weirdo. I would even go as far as to say that his obsession with the dark arts stems partially because of the bullying. Lily dispised James for this reason. Everything else, I agree with you lol

What surprised me most was that some Movie fans think that Lily should’ve chosen Snape over James… It’s true that James was a bully as a kid, but he grew out of it, joined the Order of Phoenix, finally died for his family. On the other hand, Snape became a loyal Death Eater despite Lily’s warnings, and asked Voldemort to kill Harry and James (2 innocent people) and spare Lily. If the Chosen One wasn’t Lily’s son, Snape would still be a Death Eater during the whole series. Regardless, he is one of my favorite characters, I love his « redemption » at the end because it’s so emotional and changed my perspective, but I can’t say that Snape was good for Lily, who hated the fact that he called her and other Muggleborns « mudbloods »

Am I the only ones who love the marauders and likes that they are flawed? James bullies and goes too far with people he hates, especially slytherin’s with how he sees them but when he’s your friend he is the most loyal person who will do everything for you… I mean that’s literally who he is. Plus it creates an interesting dynamic because Remus is against the bullying but is scared to say anything incase he loses his friends who did so much for him, I think it creates an interesting dynamic that could be explored more in the fandom

Can't believe nobody is talking about this!!! Sirius and Snape hate each other because they both represent what the other hates the most. Snape- raised ashamed of his "half blood" and poor, looks at Sirius of the Most Ancient and Noble House of Black; wealthy, handsome, charming, and sees all that he wishes he could be. Meanwhile, Sirius is living in a nightmare house that turns violently toxic and abusive after he is placed in the "wrong house". Like, Walburga was ~like that~ the whole time. (Portraits are a good representation of personality) So seeing sneering Snape, with his wildly racist ideas and sneering attitude, trips every trigger Sirius has. Plus, Snape isn't a cousin or family friend, which would have confusing feelings (that Sirius would never admit to) of old affection. Pureblood incest for the win? James and Snape's soon-to-be Death Eater buddies are just drawn into the conflict from their loyalty to their friends. I'm not convinced that this is bullying, or cliques escalating to violence in a world that can kill or cure you with the wave of a twig.

The only thing unrealistic is that everyone can't be this hot lol

I'll never understand how people are so against James. He was a kid and we only saw him through the eyes of the person who hated him most. Literally everyone else who actually knew him, loved him and said that he was an amazing person.
