While it's true that lamps always have power applied and only the ground side is switched you still must have the Main AC power switch in the "ON" position for there to be voltage present at the lamps. Still, your advice to not work on the unit with it plugged into the AC power is the best standard safety practice.

On your video at about 2:30 you use your new lights to test the circuit. I tried that with mine and nothing lights up. I might not be clearly seeing what you are touching. Are you touching the wires of the new lights to the two soldiered pins of the mounted lights? Thanks!

Yes, I'm touching the leads of the new LED to the soldered pins of the old mounted lamps. It shouldn't matter which orientation you test as they're fed with AC voltage. If you have a volt-meter you can test the voltage across the installed lamp as well. It should be ~8Vac. If you're not seeing that, the problem with your lamps is upstream.

@@cilynx I go the new lamps in and everything is working great. Thanks for the video.

Could you give me some help?? My Marantz 2220B works very well, I love the sound of it, but the STEREO lamp is very difficult to turn on on FM. On AUX-PHONO-TAPE it works perfectly, but on FM it is very difficult, although the FM station is picked up, the sound is clean, but the lamp turns on with great difficulty, stations above 100 are almost impossible to turn on the STEREO. And the few stations that the STEREO turned on were with a wire that goes outside the house, passing through the window, and another Technics receiver that I have picks up the signal 100% and the stereo turns on in all the stations with just a little bit of wire. Are there any adjustments I could make? I thank you in advance.

The lamp turns on when the FM stereo signal is locked. If the lamp works and isn't on, you're only getting mono. The adjustment procedure you're looking for is called "tuner alignment", but it's a bit of a dark art and requires the ability to broadcast tones over FM and an oscilloscope to view the output while adjusting a few components with non-conductive tools. You'll find tutorials on KZread of how to do it.

Can you explain in detail, what you did from 9:24 to 9:30? I shorted a very expensive receiver a couple weeks ago (setting bias), and I want to know what exactly you touched between 9:24-9:30 (especially in the third part) with the prongs. It looks to me like you touched black probe to short led leg, and red one to longer led leg, on both led's, but the third part where you got the beep sound from your multimeter I have no idea. Thanks!

The first two, I was checking that I didn't short across the LEDs when soldering them in. As you mentioned, I tested for continuity across each LED against the junction. The third test was for continuity between the inner pins as the lamps are in series. Wanted to make sure I didn't accidentally break that connection and open the circuit.

I don't recall if this is one of the models where this is the case, but some of this vintage Marantz show the stereo lamps in parallel on the wiring diagram, but they're definitely in series IRL.

@@cilynx So, were you touching each prong to each bi-pin leg? I'm just getting started, and I got a very expensive lesson right off the bat, and just trying to be very careful from here on out. Thanks!

@@Gabrielishere -- the first two tests were testing for continuity, touching the probes to the two legs on one LED and then the other to make sure neither LED was shorted. The third test was touching the probes to the inside legs on the mount -- one from each LED as the center legs need to be connected together to complete the series circuit. It's worth noting that LEDs are polarized -- in regular operations, they only flow current in one direction. As this is an AC circuit, it doesn't matter which way you put both LEDs as long as they're both oriented in the same direction. On the third test, those inside pins that are connected together should be the anode of one LED and the cathode of the other.

@@cilynx Thanks so much. I have non polarized LED's, and my Marantz 2325 will take them even for the FM circuit, unlike some others... where I see another tech using incandescents for the stereo light, since they are the voltage needed.
