Her book made me cry. The reason she found out the tooth fairy isn't real was her mom was so sick and exhausted from cancer she forgot to do the tooth fairy duty.

Her Dad took care of her! He was still around and they were very close. Danny Devito who played the dad in Matilda also visited Mara after the film ended!

@@LeoNataFamil I have no idea the details, but I do believe her mom passed away in the hospital after the movie Matilda was made. I just know that because Danny Devito said he made sure to play it for her in the hospital before she passed away ):

Talk about invading personal space, even as a child!! I feel bad she went through so much as a child, but thankful she was able to get out of it.

I’m really happy he asked her mother to be in the interview. So refreshing to see her mother here. She seemed like she had such a strong force of energy.

Her mum seemed like a lovely person. Such a shame she passed when Mara was so young. I lost my mother when I was 7. It's not easy at such a young and crucial age...

There is no evidence at all that Mara quit acting because of her mother's death. Mara has always said she quit acting because she did not enjoy the repetitive and mechanical nature of film-making, which she found both tedious and uncreative

Look at this creep’s posture during the interview. Can you imagine if he put his arm around an adult actress like that? I hate it when people have no concept of personal space. She’s leaning away from you for a reason!
