This album saved my life.
this is the maps and atlases i remember and love
i was introduced to this in middle school. i had an after school program, teaching us to animate films frame by frame. a woman, i think she was a college student, her name escapes me, helped me almost every time i went there with my film. she made me a CD with different songs on it, a couple from this album and from the mars volta and the aquabats. this reminds me of a collection of memories of better times, of simpler times, i wish i could thank her.

Brilliant story and very cool to remember the impact she had on you during that time. Things like that are lasting and as you grow older you begin to realize the true weight they carried. Cheers.
The drummer, Chris Hainey, was my rock band camp counselor and gave me this album when i was in middle school. I remember listening to it on the ride home with my dad. He hated it but it changed my fucking life. Still one of my favorite albums of all time.

sick, good find. it's a classic
I loved when they were math rock
Played in a duo battle show against the bassist and drummer in their basement in Chicago in 2007 and won after a cymbal flew off and cut the guitar power cable!! Love listening to this still ! Some great waveforms here / hear!!!!
Crazy. I remember when they were just making a name for themselves with this Album. My band was friends with a band they were good friends with, Karma with A K. Back in 2007, Talked to them a couple times. One was someones house in Chicago that used to host shows in the basement called Peoples Project. Man, they deserve their come up. Just wish my band would of stuck together
why I just discovered this band and math rock NOWWW in 2015?And I am child of eighties...weird...but anyhow, happy to hear this piece of heaven!

In 2007, a coworker's band was playing a free show at UW Milwaukee. The headliner was Maps & Atlases from Chicago. I never heard of them but they totally blew me away. I left with this CD and an enduring love for this sound.

I feel like a lot of bands feel the need to “outgrow” an initial sound like this… like they can only go so far with it, which I don’t totally disagree with and can understand. Still yet, you don’t fix what isn’t broken either. It’s a tough thing to balance… “growing” or allowing yourselves to become “stale”. It’s all subjective at the end of the day but yeah, wish they had held this sound for at least a little while longer than they did.

@@chromegnats They made this album with 4 people in the band and one of the guitarists left soon after, that might have been a reason why they migrated away from a technical sort of sound.
