I watch many shaving videos as I am a retired barber of 30 years. I honestly watch to see the misinformation being given on the U-tube. Your videos seem to be the most uplifting and positive I have seen! Plus, not a bit of misinformation! Very well done Sir! If I may, the most trouble with straight razor shaving is ... #1 dull blade #2 lack of proper pre prep #3 poor technique #4 garbage product #5 too much fufu aftershave product In that order, these five issues can be broken down into many issues that contribute to a poor shave experience. It's actually a very simple task but many companies try to make it some kind of a science to sell more stuff. I could go on for hours about proper shaving hygiene razor sanitation and storage of razor equipment. Hours about pre prep, hours about technique and hours about product. In the end it's what your comfortable with. Working with the public I had to have my bases covered. In 30 years I shaved every part of the body both male and female that you can imagine literally thousands of times. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, regretted a few times but didn't make same mistakes twice. Im now just recently retired and am now making straight razors, hunting knives and culinary knives. Your video is about the best I have seen, I hope you are able to continue! I liked, subscribed and hope to soon watch the rest of your videos!

Michael thanks so much for liking, and subscribing! I apricate your kindness! You are so right getting a comfortable shave with what you are comfortable with is key. I found your list of troubling things very interesting, and refreshing! There is a lot going on there shaving isn't rocket science it should be simple enough to do. Have you used both straight razors and shavettes in your 30 years of shaving yourself and others? What do you use for razor sanitation and why? Have any of the chemicals ever affected the scales/handles? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm sure you have a wealth of knowledge. Please keep me up to date on your straight razors and other knives. It's always good to meet a maker! I will be making videos again soon, either this month or next. Thanks so much for your great comment and encouragement, and thanks for watching! :) Have a great week, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart

Mostly used shavettes for body shaving for sanitary reasons for majority of clients. However, personal friends/clients always preferred the conventional straight razor experience. Yes almost everything that kills germs also kills good steel! Celluloid, bone and wood scales do stain and get brittle with sanitizer, so stainless handles is best practice. Barbicide brand makes a great sanitizer and they have one also rated for steel instruments. Just soak for recommended time and not a minute longer! Honestly though it's a sad truth that sanitation often is quite poor in many shops. It can look very clean to the eye but if poor sanitizing procedures are used the chance of transmission is always present.

Michael the stainless handles sound like the way to go for sure! Thanks for your answer I thought it might be hard on the handles never thought about the steel itself. So the best bet is to use all stainless all around for everything! :) #Heart

To get anything approaching a BBS then you need to know how your beard grows and i have found that a magnifying mirror can really pinpoint the areas that are difficult to get right. It's disorientating at first, but being able to see every whisker helps when planning the best way to tackle them. This is something i copied from Mark Dayoc. For someone starting out in SR shaving it's crucial that the blade is shave-ready and the chances are that something you buy on Ebay or a Chinese Gold Dollar will not be. So either pay someone reputable to hone it for you or buy a razor from someone that shaves with a straight themselves, because that will take a lot of the guesswork out of it. T

T that is a great idea to use a magnifying mirror to be able to see all the detail! ;) Yeah, Buddy and having a truly shave-ready edge is key! Buying a straight razor from somebody that shaves with a straight razor is another awesome idea! How are you getting along with the weather in your area? Thanks for your great comment and ideas, and thanks for watching! :) Have a great week, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart

i consider anything under about 60°F to be cold, so i'm not a fan of the weather just now! Cover the car, get the plants in etc. HRH loves it and runs about in a t-shirt which adds to my annoyance. T

hey Eric, thank you for your videos giving good advices :-). I just had my two first shave with a Dovo Solingen. I got it directly from the factory as shave ready, but my impression is, the it isn't. probably I need to hone shave ready with an ardesia stone. Of course, I know that I'm a beginner and it could be also my fault, in not using the razor in the right way. anyway, how often do you shave? every day? How long should a razor rest before reusing again? Looking forward hearing from you! :-)

Congrats on your new Dovo straight razor Mario! ;) Yeah, Buddy! I like shaving every other day, but when I get really busy it will be once a week and I would shave every day if I had the time. For your second question, I know the conventual wisdom is to let you Dovo rest for 48 hours. However, this will not straighten out the burr on your edge by itself. Straightening your edge is done by stropping on the smooth side of your leather strop. I always strop my straight razor before I shave. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for your great comment and encouragement, and thanks for watching! :) Take care and stay safe, have a great day my friend! :) #Heart

Hey dear friend, I need your advice on this because I don't have enough money, so I plan to buy a 10000grit grinding stone with size 16cmx2cmx1cm . Will insufficient width affect the razor blade when sharpening? I need your help

Great question Khoi! ;) I would like a bigger stone, but it will work using X-Strokes. You will need to be very careful with a stone that small. You can easily get cut. Please let me know how you get along, and if you have any other questions. Thanks for your great comment and question, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good weekend, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart
