UPDATE: So as it turns out, I missed a looooooooot of people while collecting data. I will definitely be coming back with an updated version of this graph in order to fix a lot of issues it currently has. Litearlly dozens of 10k+ accounts, and even a few 100k+ accounts on twitter were missed, which is pretty unacceptable to my standards. I also do a bit of research about furries from time to time, that's actually really fascinating and often with very unexpected results or conclusions. Currently I'm working on something like "how to be a golden furry, a 101 to spread positivity", also with additional answers to popular questions. Yeah, I think in real terms way more than half of the fandom purveys NSFW.

You should make this into an app so people can just put in their own name to see where they fall

Very interesting data. My only nitpick is that the title of the video is slightly misleading: "Mapping the Furry Fandom" when technically it is only mapping Furry Twitter. Which is a decent chunk of the fandom but by no means the whole fandom.

"The NSFW largely grouped by two major element, masculine and feminine. But the feminine also contain femb0i." Let just be honest here, it's either top NSFW or bottom NSFW. Not many on switch there.

Watching this reminds me of The Furry Iceberg Seether Cord mentioned in previous videos lol Zenith you've so got so much extensive talent for research like this.

Fudge, this is really awesome! Very much r/dataisbeautiful worthy. Although, analysis wise, the main issue is that many furries have both normal and AD accounts. That skews the data and makes it look like the NSFW and SFW furries do not interact when, in fact, they do... just under a disguise of a different username 😁

this is genuinely really cool. i can tell a lot went into it and even though there are some major flaws, it’s still a really incredible first insight into how the community interacts with one another. huge applause to you zenith, this is very rad :)

Me, who's first interaction with them was being groomed in rp:

the fact that everyone I follow is on the same region and in the same general area, attests this map (and reads me so much)

This kind of research is super interesting, the only thing that stands out to me is that there is a trend for furries to have multiple twitter accounts (generally a SFW and a NSFW) which would give some explanation to the divide we see in the graph. If we were able to account for this, which is no easy task in itself, I feel the graph would look a bit different. In short, great video and study.

Next: how many online furries are there in the world im just curious because google's answer is extremely outdated

I think as far as a flaw goes, the conclusion that there is no bridges between the sectors may be because of the edge cases that were removed. Those that dabble in little pieces all over the community are going to draw a lot less in followers than those that fulfill a passionate nitch. So those those edges that were removed also create more defined gaps. 8:35 - 8:26 highlights this.

Thought that social furries have a wider spectrum, though... Giving that it seems that anthro and non-anthro doesn't seem to be together that much, and there's also a section of the art community that's mostly about OC adoption/breeding/art trading and things like that, and being more or less in isolation with the rest of the community that most people either produce or consume content but not interact with each other in both ways unless it's some thoroughly planned collabs. But I guess it's a lot more mixed up than I thought. Also, it's hard to tell the ratio between social and non-social furries and non-social furries might have a different preference on things. For example, NSFW contents might be more popular and more engaging on social media but overall not as popular.

When he asked the question at the start, I answered "both!", and I was right! 😊

Aside from the pepe emotes this video was very interesting to watch. The ways a community an spread is interesting to see, and it reminds me a bit of what happened with thisfursonadoesnotexist happened. I just like to think of how certain patterns, figures, elements, etc get associated with certain terms and ideas, like what we consider furry or kemono or whateves.

Awesome work! I'm surprised the SFW vs the NSFW is 50/50. Iirc the IARP determined something like 20% of the fandom was into nsfw. Finding a way to explain the differences would be interesting
