Maplewood Mall, Maplewood Minnesota, 6/8/24

This was a hopping place back in the day, but now is a prime example of a dying mall. Still has charm, though. It's the closest mall from my house.

Many reasons, but mostly cus the Mall of America is just so much bigger and better. Also lots of thuggish activity around the mall now. Bums everywhere. Lastly the mall is haunted now since not too long ago some worker committed suicide in one of his store closets. His ghost haunts the mall.

@@Faith99-r4m I don’t think that the death of the Maplewood Mall was because of the Mall of America, but instead because of the Rosedale Center- which is just a few miles down highway 36 from the Maplewood Mall. Rosedale Center is simply a larger mall with better stores that have wider selections. Not to mention, it’s much nicer aesthetically.

As an Eastsider born in 77’ I spent my childhood growing up in this mall as It was the closest to me in Saint Paul. It’s sad to see it so desolate out there now from something that used to be alive with thriving businesses. Unfortunately the internet and breakdown of the family’s structure in today’s society is responsible for the rapid decline of the mall. When Covid started and the government imposed the lockdown restrictions it wiped out a huge majority of businesses. When I was a kid we used to have our parents drop us off at the mall and spend the day out there. Every Christmas season the place would be packed with families and kids and back to school shopping in the fall was a big part draw of people coming to shop. It’s truly sad what has become of malls throughout the country. At this point in the next few years I’m sure most of them will be permanently closed and demolished. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I used to live and work around this area. I would usually go to the Barnes and Noble for a comic or buy a new expensive pair of pants or something here one weekends. I even went on the carousel in the middle when I was much younger. But slowly even before 2020, the mall and the area around it slowly deteriorated. I don't think they would ever recover. Especially because Rosedale Mall always had more, and while the MOA was in Bloomington, it's still a popular spot and right next to a big Airport to it's future is secure. Maplewood Mall and Burlington Coat factory was were a lot of memories were made for me, both now in such a sorry state.

It was odd to see that the McDonald's and Burger King are gone from the mall. But good old Cinnabon! I don't know how many of them I ate as a kid! Best damn cinnamon bun I've ever had! I live in Norway now and they don't have Cinnabon here. 27:06
