I have to be honest, if the Leafs had simply played their normal game and structure and made decisions like they usually do these last 2 games, Auston would have actually reached 70. I think the circus and chaos with how the team was playing-recklessly at times-actually lowered his odds to 70 instead of increasing them. The best thing the Leafs could have done was come out blazing 4-0 in the first period-damn the record. And then, when Tampa felt like there was nothing to play for and eased up, THEN you let Auston get an easy goal. That was the way to do it. Instead, we saw a circus tonight.

You (a fan who posts on KZread) see something that they cannot - and that seems all too telling to me. He got outcoached and they got outplayed. Yet again. Anyone who says these games were meaningless is out to lunch. You can't just turn it on when game 83 starts. I'd considered a playoff roadie this season - and these last 4 games have convinced me otherwise. They're not winning anything so that'll be money poorly spent.

First of all, congratulations on securing a spot in the playoffs! That's the ultimate goal for every team. Now, I want to talk first about Auston Matthews, and he deserves more than this! Auston has proven time and time again that he is a true leader, both on and off the ice. While some may focus solely on the fact that he fell short of the 70*goal mark, true fans and analysts recognize that his impact goes far beyond individual statistics. Matthews shows us what it means to never give up! He knows how to bounce back from tough times and keeps getting better, which is exactly what leaders do and what we need for Leafs. When things don't go the best way, he learns from it and gets even stronger for the next challenge and that's why Matthews is a true superstar. Also his consistency. Game after game, season after season, he delivers top- notch performances, leading by example and inspiring those around him to elevate their game. AM's impact reaches far beyond the rink, as he represents his team and hockey in general with dignity and class. Just be real and admit that scoring goals like Auston Matthews is no easy feat. Many players have the same opportunity as him, but only few possess his sniper-like precision and ability to find the back of the net with such consistency. Hey 69 goals, it's a sexy nasty number! ;) It's a combination of skill, determination, and a bit of luck that sets Matthews apart from the rest. All Toronto players have their strengths, but in the playoffs, they'll need to step up big time! Toronto is one super great team with Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Bertuzzi, Reaves, Giordano, Brodie, Edmundson, Lybushkin, McCabe, Rielly, Tavares (he needs to lead with positivity and experience ...), Samsonov or Woll, ... I mean everyone ... the Leafs must bring their A-game and that's about it. In the playoffs, unity, grit, and confidence are crucial. Time to shine! Good Luck in Playoffs and #GoLeafsGo #34 💙🏒💪 Let's Win that Stanley Cup ! ! ! 😎🥳🏆

As for my Maple Leafs, I felt so bad for Auston, his lovely parents and the amazing fans who travelled to witness his 70th. It was not meant to be as Auston said. The entire team wanted it for him, and sometimes when you want something so desperately, it doesn’t happen. I am insistent that we acknowledge the extraordinary season Auston had, 69 goals!!!! And he is ours! How lucky are we? Thank you for the wonderful season PAPI. On to the Bruins. Don’t let Marchand intimidate you guys. Play your game. And remember your successes. This game was just proof God has a sense of humour. The one shot since 2022 Brodie doesn't want to go in goes in and prevents the last best shot of Matthews getting 70...leaving him with 69 goals. lol it hurts but it's also funny. Shake off the meaningless losses and throw it into full gear and this team shouldn't be afraid of anyone in the playoffs. Round 1 is likely gonna be the hardest one to get through but if they play playoff hockey, if they all compete all throw the body and all play with intensity they could be a real underdog darkhorse this year. This is not the same team that's disappointed in the past, these Leafs are not getting pushed around and they have the ability to do the pushing this time. GO Leafs GO!

Great team and individual accomplishments during the regular season. Post season is all that matters. I personally do not feel confident with Marner and Matthew’s being together. I’ve been watching for years how Marner in particular becomes so much more ineffective in heavy high pressure moments and games which is playoff hockey. If this pattern continues this post season it’s time to move on from Marner regardless of his immense talent. Very important that Nylander folded his tent the past month or so. It’s really sad to see Nylander mail it in when a player like Homberg plays warrior like every shift. I’ll be supporting the team as usual but my confidence isn’t the highest

  • @harryposner7584

I'm not sure you can say that Nylander's poor month = 'folding his tent'. All players have bad stretches. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Willy was the most important contributor to beating the Bruins (along with Domi and Bertuzzi in particular).

it’s called the eye test. There is more to it than numbers. Having said that 88 was in a position to significantly increase his numbers with 3 weeks to go in the season but didn’t. Again. It’s the eye test. I watch his play and judge the effort he does or doesn’t spend. Any observant fan knows the effort isn’t always there and liaise faire and flippant attitude when interviewedc is obvious. I personally can’t make excuses for what my eyes tell me

@@davelindey8023 I get it. Eye test, and all. But, look, he had a really good season last year, and excelled even more in the playoffs. I will bet that he does the same, this time around. He will be a factor, in my humble opinion.

So many bad vibes with the team right now. 4 straight L's, Matthews not getting to 70, bad goaltending, bad special teams, injuries etc. Going to need a complete 180 in 3 days if the leafs want to have a chance at winning

Domi will be back but I don't think he'll make a huge difference. We all know how Boston plays against the leafs and like you said, bad goaltending and not to mention this defense. Leafs are tougher this season but Matthews line will have 2 tough guys, which basically sets up the 2nd and 3rd line to get murdered

@@red3here I am a new Leaf playoff supporter this spring. Well - has any team ever played as low as a Wildcard Team in the standings and never had a playoff run - when it has 4 of the 9 $11 Million NHL player contracts? Having $50 Million tied up - mainly in four forwards - (one JT looked best as 3rd line Centre this year) looks bad. Oh yes - with Marner playing while Domi sat out - Matthews stopped scoring in the last two games & missed out on getting 70. My question is - why would anyone think this Leaf Core 4 - is well structured? And where is a justification for the $50 Million spending on this Leaf Core 4 with 8 years of zero playoff runs? Those are just honest straightforward comments. But as a new Leaf Playoff support for only this spring - I can add: Miracles do happen - and maybe Leafs should bring back pyramid power this spring. At least the Leafs aren’t eliminated yet - that is some good news. 😀

😡Keeefe! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T PLAY BRODIE IN THE PLAYOFFS! Once again, the first goal of the game and who is right there lost in the weeds? BRODIE! That just takes the sails right out of the team before the game has really begun. ⛵ ⛳🏌🏻‍♀Well, warm up the golf clubs fellas cuz after the effort of the last few games we should see you there before the end of next week. This team is NOT listening to the coach re defensive coverage. It's been clear for most of the season that Keefe has lost the room. The team needs a coach that will make them play the right way, regardless of $$ (yes William, I'm looking at your lazy a$$ that only back-checks once in a blue moon, meanders to the bench, and gives up on the puck when he loses it) or trade them if they refuse (don't give me this "no trade clause" crap because they'll be begging to be traded after you've sat them long enough!). It's hard to believe, but this team has actually been going BACKWARDS over the last few years and getting worse, not better (and no, getting lucky and winning a series doesn't mean you're a better team)! You'd think it wasn't possible, but there it is! I was hoping for my last hockey season alive that the addition of Bertuzzi and Domi would add some grit this year and maybe make it "the year" to go deep. But even those two can't change the fact that this team refuses to play proper defense. God they are the most frustrating team to watch! (they'll give me a heart attack before my other ailments kill me!)

I have to be honest, if the Leafs had simply played their normal game and structure and made decisions like they usually do these last 2 games, Auston would have actually reached 70. I think the circus and chaos with how the team was playing - recklessly at times - actually lowered his odds to 70 instead of increasing them. The best thing the Leafs could have done was come out blazing 4-0 in the first period - forget the record. And then, when Tampa felt like there was nothing to play for and eased up, THEN you let Auston get an easy goal. That was the way to do it. Instead, we saw a circus tonight.
