If you read the books, there is a scene with a pit of snakes that is hilarious. It's one of my favorite scenes.

I love the reason Maomao's adoptive father restricted her from performing autopsies lol. Her inquisitiveness is definitely her nature so I can TOTALLY see why.

This is exactly why I freakin love this show. The two leads have such dynamic personalities. Even though MaoMao usually doesn’t give af she has moments like this where she gets so excited and shows how human she is. Same with Jinshi who goes from flirty to possessive to serious to sad to protective. They’re both so entertaining to watch and refreshing compared to the usual romance leads we get

Jinshi is great because he's only pretending to be a mature adult and with Maomao the mask slips a lot, revealing him to in a lot of ways still be an awkward, moody adolescent. and Maomao is hardheaded, more emotionally levelheaded, and aware of how things really work because she's much less insulated from danger. so the dynamic ends up pretty balanced.

I still love how Maomao is so resistant to certain poisons that pufferfish, one of the most poisonous things you can eat if not prepared correctly, just tingles and stings

Actually, tingling and numbness around the mouth are initial symptoms of pufferfish toxin poisoning for anyone (as well as salivation, nausea, and vomiting). Depending on how much you consume, symptoms can then progress to paralysis, respiratory failure, loss of consciousness, and eventually death. It is theoretically possible to consume just enough to get the tingling effect, without the more advanced symptoms, but of course the trick would be managing to consume just the very minuscule amount needed for that, without even a small amount more, which would likely cause serious nerve damage, or kill you... (It is also, AFAIK, not actually possible to develop a tolerance to pufferfish toxin. It is not the type of poison that actually works in that way, so Maomao is probably actually no more resistant to it than anybody else is.)

@@foogod4237 She also did not really say that she wouldn't get all the other symptoms - she only says that she loves the tingling and stinging. She definitely has some resistance to some poisons but throughout the show I didn't get the impression that it's anything crazy - a lot of the time it's just that she doesn't mind being poisoned. She seems to enjoy having trouble breathing, vomiting, nausea and all the things a normal person would consider symptoms of being horribly ill.

I loved how when he tried it in the Jade Palace, the concubine (Gyo-something. Her name is too long to remember after not being exposed to it for half the season, forgive me) was looking back and forth as well. I loved that part, she's so observant and she uses it to great effect to mess with Jinshi sometimes

I honestly wish she didnt have a love interest in this series cause it's so funny to see Maomao and Jinshi act like this without dating. I feel like Maomao doesn't have the capacity to fall in love. (besides poison) I noticed how much she avoids a lot of things she doesn't want to deal with and that could be a problem if she were to date anyone. Especially how much misunderstandings there will be. Also Jinshi seems to be quite insecure he needs to work on if he gets jealous so easily.

Maomao certainly has issues with love, but the story itself is her journey to give love a chance in her life. Jinshi on other hand is a boy playing adult so it is also the story about him to understand what adulthood means to someone like him. A human without human connection is worst, at best she/he/they suffer, worse she/he/they becoming suffering of others. I never ever want it to happen to anybody.

The voice actress did such an amazing job giving Maomao life. I knew Aoi Yuki for her role of Futaba in Persona 5, and I think they couldn't choose a better actress for a cheeky little goblin like Maomao
