    The reason I it does that reaction because the electrons from that area gets deflected by the magnet causing a electro movements inside the Cathode ray tube or (crt) screen and the electrons trying to resolve the magnets causing the screen faulty miscoloring random images inframe.

    As a kid I went around the house once with a massive horseshoe magnet seeing what did and didn't stick to it. One of the things was my dad's Windows 95 CRT Panasonic monitor which was on at the time. It didn't stick but I thought it was wierd that the lime green Windows desktop now had two massive purple vieny spots stuck to it and it didn't go away after I turned the monitor on and off. Dad found out later and was not happy, had to get someone to fix it as monitors back then were EXPENSIVE believe it or not.

Makes me want to find a CRT now just to try this out :) What I don't understand is why the change persists. I get how the magnetic field modulates the path of the electron beam, but wouldn't the beam travel straight again once the magnetic field is removed?

  • @HangTimeDeluxe

    Sorry, I just got here. I assume you have found your answer by now, but just in case you haven't, it persists because the shadow mask in a color CRT is made of a ferrous material that holds a residual magnetic field after the magnet is removed. This magnetic field affects the trajectory of the electron beams. A black and white television does not have a shadow mask so it is not permanently affected.

    I was the computers and monitors tech.for a major computers like AST computers and GateWay Inc.in the late 80-90 era.All CRT monitors and TV sets have a degaussing magnetic coil inside front of the plastic front facial of the frame.It works 90-98% of the times the design of the degaussing coil works fines.Like about 2% mostly any computerized firms and sometimes customers do it too.Just take the screws out of the plastics covering shell.Just disconnected the degaussing figure.That how they justify for replacing the product and paid little more to ungraded for the replacement.

    Some older CRT TVs do not have deguass coils. For these sets, just picking one up and moving it around can distort the colors if residual magnetic fields exist. I've fixed my 2001 19 inch Symphonic CRT several times with a rotating magnet method and it fixes color impurities that persist during power cycles. Butting together a CRT computer monitor face to face with a non-deguass CRT TV may also help. CRT monitors had much finer dot pitch and were more susceptible to impurities than consumer telivisions, thus had more powerful deguass coils. The other effective way is to wrap many turns of wire around a hoop and pass AC current through it. Never play with mains AC though as it can kill you.

    South Pole attracts north pole. Electrical field is perpendicular to the magnetic field and visa-versa. So by placing a magnetic field in the presence of a CRT screen, it distorts the electron beam. Any residual magnetization of the mask behind the phosphor display will also distort the beam causing color changes which I attempted to eliminate by utilizing a rotating magnetic field to erase it.

    If it persists after degaussing then try to add a little bit of overscan. If it's on the left then shift the image to the left. If it does on the right, shift the image to the right. If it's on the top, adjust the vertical alignment. If it's on bottom do the same, but on the bottom side. This can be done in the service menu only.

    Doubt it. Speaker magnets are strong, but are nothing compared to neodymium magnets. Easiest/cheapest way to degauss a CRT is a video tape eraser. Works WAY better that permanent magnets and they’re cheaper than the magnets

    If you have kids over at your house and they happen to carry a magnet, they may mess up your screen by putting a magnet to it. This would leave the TV messed up before degaussing. If the CRT does not have a working degausser, this is an alternative to help adjust the tv screen back to normal

  • @vendszel

    @vendszel

    7 жыл бұрын

    The process is well known by engineers and usually built in to more modern CRT TVs and monitors to be performed automatically when the screen turns on and in some cases you can select it from the options to perform on demand as well. What he is doing is the manual execution of what some screen does using its own electromagnets. At the end of the video he fails to manually eliminate some red area on the top, but after a restart you can see it fixed, that's because of the auto-self-degaussing of the TV. Still clever though!

    Yes, if you use very strong neodymium magnet you can deform shadow mask inside tube with it.Especially trinitrons are prone to it because of thin wires that the shadow mask is made from
