Manual Rotary Vegetable Cutter Grater and Shredder Review

Smaller than expected, but quickly grates and slices thinly, easy to clean, good for slaw, chips, and cheese.

    Worked for carrots, potatoes and onions. Didn't work for cabbage, tomatoes or anything with some moisture in it, like cucumbers. I basically threw my grater out, mostly because it didn't stay stuck to the counter and, in one case, everything went flying. But Phil. you handled it nicely and I liked your demo.

    Awesome 😎 just got this.... I love it thanks for the video helps alot where I is this online it did have the instructions on it but I had already watched your video... I graded cheese sprayed it first outside inside So this cheese would slide out easier when it comes out but I need to put it where it was angled more so that was my problem. Maybe if I had it at an angle I wouldn't had to spray it. But spraying this is good because the cheese does not stick to the barrel. Try it. That is the way I preferred to do it. 🙂 Also, I did not use the small shredder for grinding up my block mozzarella cheese. I did not used the slicer. I used the bigger Grinder for my mozzarella block cheese I bought. I would recommend buying this...

    3 reasons why the carrots didn't work too well. 1, you cooked/heated them first so it got soggy. With slicers it's better to have dry or cold hard food. 2, you put a bunch of little carrots in there instead of one big carrot. It's easier to hold & control one vegetable at a time. & 3, the slicer is pretty cheap so can't expect too much. Your review was fine, just saying why the carrots were harder to slice/shred. Use one long carrot at a time next time. 🙂👍

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great tips, thanks! As a point of clarification, the carrot was uncooked and only cut in half to make it shorter, not narrower, as they were already smaller than the opening of the feed chute (about 1/2 inch diameter at the thickest part of the carrot). I think part of it is that the the carrot can only be placed perpendicular to the blade drum and since the narrow end of the carrot has a small surface area, the shreds are already going to be quite short; plus if they don't grate across the whole surface you end up with lots of small bits and tiny shreds less then 1/2" long. Depending on how much moisture content there is in the carrot, when these small shreds are mixed with the juice it tends to clump up into a blob of mush. If you're only grating really fat carrots you would maybe get better results. With a flat cheese grater you usually grate the carrot on a diagonal across the bias to get long shreds.

    How does this hold up if you're trying to grate potatoes? I make both German and Russian style potato pancakes

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    4 жыл бұрын

    I like using the slicing blade for potato chips, provided the potatoes are small. I find that the large grater cylinder works much better on potatoes than the small one (which tends to shred and mush it up too much). The large one makes 1-2 inch long shreds the width of linguine pasta.

    Hi! Thanks for the review! I'm about to buy it... Saw some people saying the product is too fragile, the handle would break easy, some screws got rusty, and stuff like that... Is it true?

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    3 жыл бұрын

    The product I have has no metal screws, so I haven't noticed any rust. The only part that "broke" on mine with a plastic cap at the back which actually didn't really serve any function as far as I could tell. In fact, the only reason it broke is because I tried to take it off to wipe up some water that got trapped behind it during washing (the piece is clear so I could see the water and I didn't want it to mildew). The product works fine without that cap, and now that it's off I can dry it fully, so I think it's actually better off without it. I could see if you're trying to grind something truly hard, like a lot of whole nutmeg or a rock hard piece of aged cheese, you could bend/dent the cutting drums, but if it feels you're you're twisting hard enough to break the handle, you are probably not using the right tool for the job. It works great with soft, semi-hard cheeses and most vegetables.

    Mine well not attach to my work surface surface any answers

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    Жыл бұрын

    It could be a couple things. If your work surface is not smooth, for example textured tile, natural wood (unvarnished), tile with grout lines, or slate, the suction cup will not attach to it. It works best on polished or glossy surfaces like granite, marble, polyurethane treated wood, melamine tables etc. If you are sure the surface should be compatible, check that there is no damage to the rubber of the suction cup like warping, nicks or tears, holes. When attaching the the surface, make sure the knob is in the unlocked position, press the suction cup down firmly, then turn the knob clockwise to lock (see 0:35).

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    4 жыл бұрын

    I haven't had any of the main parts crack from use, but I did snap off the small clear cap at the back of the hopper, under where the handle connects, trying to get in there to dry some trapped water. Honestly not even sure why it was only partially sealed in the first place. I was worried the water in there would form mold, so it's actually better that there's no cap there now.

    Does it work well for onions

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    6 жыл бұрын

    While it can shred onions, the results will be inconsistent and a little bit messy. Because the onion already has rings and cross sections depending on how you cut the chucks to put in the hopper, what direction they are facing and which blade you use, you could either end up with lots of long shreds and tiny bits of mashed onion. I prefer to cut my onion by hand if I need consistently sized pieces for a recipe.

    Did the handle slide off again? What’s your review of it now, and how long have you had it by now?

  • @ReviewedByPhil

    @ReviewedByPhil

    5 жыл бұрын

    I've had it about a year and a half now. No, the handle hasn't slid off since, so perhaps the tab was knocked loose during shipping. Seems to be pretty firmly in place now. I use it mostly for grating firm to hard cheeses like Parmesan and Swiss. I also like it for slicing potatoes for chips, gratin, and hash browns. Suction cup still holds well. I did break off the clear plastic half-moon piece on the back of the feed chute (seen at 1:24 under the blade drum) trying to get in there to dry up some trapped water droplets. This "cap" isn't functional or necessary for the unit to work properly and, personally, I like it better without the piece because I was concerned the trapped moisture would eventually get mold/mildewy. Without it, water is free to drain from that area, and it can be air dried or dried with a towel. I like it a lot and find it a lot faster/safer than grating by hand. It's a breeze to wash. Do be careful with the blade drums because I "dented" one with a way too hard block of cheese, so it's not great for grating the hardest foods like whole nutmeg.
